Call for Dance Choreographer
The Elon Dance Program of North Carolina seeks a dance choreographer to create a new solo dance work for the 2021 Spring Dance Concert. Applicants should have professional experience and it is preferred they have experience working with undergraduate students. The selected choreographer will create an original solo work (approximately 8-12 minutes) that will be learned by every Dance Performance and Choreography major (70+). The solo can follow any thematic concept the choreographer chooses but should be created in a way so that it can be performed on stage or in a variety of sites and environments.
Due to uncertainty with future travel, the choreographer will teach the choreography to the students through a pre-recorded video. There will be one virtual master class and opportunities for coaching sessions via an online video conferencing platform so students and the choreographer can have meaningful interactions. Students will record their performance of the solo in various locations with guidance from the artistic director. The videos will be edited into a dance film and shared online. If the Spring Dance Concert takes place on stage, the choreographer will select 4 dancers to perform the solo individually during each of the 4 performance times. The artistic director will communicate with the choreographer regarding the master class, rehearsals, coaching sessions, costumes and other aspects of the production.
