BAC Executive Director Georgiana Pickett to Step Down

1/23/2019

PictureGeorgiana Pickett
FROM THE FOLKS AT BAC: Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) announces that Georgiana Pickett will step down as Executive Director of BAC. Ms. Pickett will remain in her position until April 26, 2019.

As BAC’s administrative head, a position she has held since August 2011, Ms. Pickett, alongside Founder and Artistic Director Mikhail Baryshnikov, oversaw all facets of the organization, including fundraising, strategic planning, budget oversight, programming, and general management of staff and facilities.

Mr. Baryshnikov said: “Georgiana Pickett has been an invaluable part of BAC’s evolution. It’s been exciting to work with someone with such passion for the arts, particularly when it comes to attracting wider audiences to BAC’s stages, and presenting opportunities to a diverse group of artists. Everyone at BAC is grateful for Georgiana’s hard work and dedication to BAC’s mission. I wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”

During her tenure, Ms. Pickett, working in tandem with Mr. Baryshnikov, led the $1M Cage Cunningham Campaign to name the John Cage & Merce Cunningham Studio and establish an artist fellowship; ushered the organization through its 10th anniversary year in 2015, including BAC’s first endowment gift from the Rudolf Nureyev Dance Foundation to support dance activity and to name the Rudolf Nureyev Studio; and launched BAC’s first education program, BAC After School, which provides high school students with curated access to the arts through seminars, workshops, and live performances.

“Serving as Baryshnikov Arts Center's Executive Director for the past seven years has been one of the greatest professional honors a person working in arts and culture could ever hope to experience,” said Ms. Pickett. “Mikhail Baryshnikov has created a vibrant and critically important organization that serves artists in intuitive and impactful ways unlike any other. BAC’s commitment to artists and their importance in a healthy, dignified society is an inspiration; it has been an unparalleled opportunity to support that commitment along with the dedicated staff, artists, audiences, board, and funding community."

Prior to her appointment at BAC, Ms. Pickett served for seven years as Executive Director of Brooklyn’s 651 ARTS, and for six years as Artistic Director of Miami-Dade College’s Cultural Affairs Department.

BAC will conduct an executive search immediately.

Including himself, Gutierrez brings together six Latinx performers – Alvaro Gonzalez, John Gutierrez, Xandra Ibarra, Nibia Pastrana Santiago, and Evelyn Sanchez Narvaez  for his new work, This Bridge Called My Ass–  “…an elusive choreography of obsessive and perverse action within an unstable terrain of bodies, materials and sound. A formal logic binds the group and propels them to create a constantly transforming world where their togetherness retains autonomy to complicate the idea of identity. Clichéd Latin-American songs and the form of the telenovela are exploited to show how familiar structures contain absurdity that reveal and celebrate difference,” notes the release.
