The Toulmin Creators join five Toulmin Fellows, announced in the fall. The addition of the Toulmin Creators is the next phase in a year-long partnership between the Center for Ballet and the Arts and National Sawdust, designed to support female, trans, and non-binary artists. Creators receive project development support, resources to adapt their work to the digital space, and a generative environment in which to develop new work and collaborate across artistic disciplines. The partnership is made possible by a $300,000 gift from the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation. Crain’s list recognizes Black men and women who have impacted New York City in major ways. Kyle is being honored for his many professional, civic and philanthropic achievements including his unwavering leadership, his dedication to his dancers and staff, his founding and running of a successful dance company, and his commitment to diversity, not to mention his unparalleled artistry. Kyle is the only artist selected among the other more than 90 leaders featured. About Kyle, Crain's wrote: "Some of New York’s most renowned cultural institutions—Lincoln Center and the Brooklyn Academy of Music, for example—have had the privilege of hosting Kyle Abraham and his dance team. While DANCECleveland faced the same challenges as all arts organizations in 2020, the organization remains in a strong financial position.
