Participation involves taking part in two separate and related activities:

o    “LET’S MAKE A DANCE” WORKSHOP/REHEARSAL: In this unique workshop led by Larry Keigwin, 24 community members of all ages and physical abilities will take part in games and improvisational exercises to gently guide you to discover your creativity and physicality, and to prepare you to perform in public.

o    DRESS REHEARSAL & PUBLIC PERFORMANCE: Community performers will join the professional dancers of KEIGWIN + COMPANY in a 12-minute dance that will be performed as part of Dancing Through the Bronx: www.dancinginthestreets.org/#!dancing-through-the-bronx-8132014/c16aj

We are hiring a year-round position, Programs and Exhibitions Manager! 

JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a dynamic and professional team-member to work in a collaborative and creative office to oversee and execute all of the Wassaic Project’s public programs, special events and exhibitions.

This position has previously encompassed our Summer Exhibition, Last Saturday Programs, and Summer Festival as well as occasional additional programs. In the next few years, we expect our summer programming to
grow rapidly with creative input from the Programs and Exhibitions Manager.


The ideal candidate will be an exceptional project manager with experience in the arts who has an awesome rapport with their co-workers. Special consideration will be given to those with experience in exhibitions and/or programming.

This is a year-round position, following this schedule:
October - April: part-time in NYC or Wassaic, TBD depending on the candidate
May - September: full-time in Wassaic

KEY CHARACTERISTICS:
A connector and team player: someone who is comfortable working closely with a wide variety of people and finding ways for them to collaborate and communicate

- An excellent manager who can assess the skills of others and assign tasks accordingly
-  Terrific organizational skills; You should be ruthlessly efficient and accurate with a to-do list, while being able to imagine a larger future and brainstorm ways to get there
- Flexible working style and ability to remain calm in an active and decentralized office
- Energetic and positive, with a good sense of humor and passion for improving the lives of others through the arts
- An interest in joining the Wassaic Project community

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
-  Oversee annual summer exhibition proposal process from creating the proposal form to informing artists of acceptance to fielding artist’s questions working closely with the curators (the co-directors)
- Oversee the physical install and de-install of the work of over 60 emerging artists
- Manage the daily operation of the summer exhibition and sales of artwork
-  Coordinate programming and onsite logistics for an annual summer festival attended by 3,500+ people. The festival programming includes 25 bands, 5 film screenings, 3 dance performances, 10 artist talks and more.
- Coordinate Last Saturday programs as well as other special programs TBD developed by the Co-Directors and senior staff team
- Hire and train seasonal interns, and supervise their projects in New York and Wassaic
- Organize group task list including adjusting timelines and incorporating feedback
-  Assist Co-Directors coordinating Winter Benefit and Summer Benefit including both lead up and follow up as well as the associated Editions Program print
- Coordinate Annual Appeal mailing and follow-up

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
- Bachelor’s Degree required
-  2+ years administration experience including project management and experience with public programming- Fluency in Adobe Create Suite, Google Docs, social media/wordpress, and basic HTML
- Basic competence with tools. Building skills a plus.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:
Programs and Exhibitions Manager reports to the Co-Directors and works collaboratively with other staff members.

COMPENSATION / WORK HOURS:
Start date: September 1st 2014 - full or part-time in Wassaic in September expected

October-April
Work expectation:
- 24 hours / week, three days / week

Compensation:
- $1,500 / month on contract

May - September in WASSAIC:
Work expectation:
- 5 full days / week in Wassaic, flexible hours, weekend work days required
- availability and attendance at all public events including weekends

Compensation:
- housing and studio to be discussed (have been provided in the past)
- $1,200 / month on contract

Winter -  location flexible - Brooklyn and Wassaic both possible. Health Insurance is not offered.  Reimbursement for the cost of a private plan negotiable.

In addition to producing excellent cultural programming, the Wassaic Project has become a constant economic stimulus in the Wassaic and Dutchess County region. Title: Director of Programs

Supervises: Programming and Conference Intern(s)


Status: Full-time, exempt

Dance/USA, the national service organization for professional dance, sustains and advances professional dance by addressing the needs, concerns, and interests of artists, administrators and organizations. Dance/USA operates at the center of the national dance field providing dance-related research and information, professional development, advocacy, and service so that members may gain new insights, perspective, and knowledge on their works as dance professionals. Dance/USA's membership currently consists of roughly 460 aerial, ballet, contemporary, modern, jazz, culturally specific, traditional and tap companies, dance service and presenting organizations, artist managers, individuals, and other organizations nationally and internationally.

Dance/USA is committed to honoring, nurturing and advancing dance through the lens of diversity, inclusion and equal opportunity in all aspects of its programming, services and organization.

Position Overview

The Programs Director is responsible for all programming & event matters related to Dance/USA’s Annual Conference and the Annual Dance Forum. The Programs Director interacts frequently with the membership and works closely with the staff, Program Committee of the Board of Trustees and Annual Conference Host Committee to develop and implement relevant professional development opportunities and events for the professional dance field.

Dance/USA’s Annual Conference is the largest gathering of not-for-profit dance professionals in the United States. Each year, hundreds of executive directors, artistic directors, company managers, choreographers, artists, and development and marketing professionals convene to discuss timely issues, learn best-practices and benefit from peer-to-peer discussions. Dance/USA’s Annual Conference takes place in different regions of the United States each year and includes three full days of professional development programming and special events. Dance/USA’s 2015 Conference will take place in Miami, FL June 17 – 20. The 2015 Dance Forum will take place on Friday, January 9 in New York City.

Responsibilities – include but are not limited to:

Participate in weekly staff meetings to keep full staff informed of program activities;

Serve as liaison to the Conference Host Committee, working closely with Host Committee co-chairs to develop agendas and assist with moving Host Committee activities forward;

Serve as liaison to the Programs Committee, working closely with Programs Committee Chair, to develop content for Annual Conference;

Work within set event budget and participate in budget discussions related to programming and convenings;


Work with Director of Finance and Operations to draft all necessary contracts and provide pertinent information for timely execution of agreements;

Oversee logistics and relations with all event locations including site contracts, hotel master accounts including staff and speaker accommodations;

Serve as on-site manager during professional development convenings;

Coordinate with Director of Development on all fundraising issues related to current and future convenings;

Coordinate with Director of Information Services to evaluate program events and services;

Work with staff to design conference registration timeline and registration publicity;

Organize and manage the Dance/USA’s Honors Celebration at the Annual Conference including coordinating logistics with honorees and presenters; designing the event program; obtaining the awards/gifts in advance; and working with the Host Committee to secure venue and funding for the event;

Work with staff to coordinate hotel and travel arrangements for all staff and Honors recipients;

Coordinate with staff on conference exhibitors and sponsors;

Identify and research meeting locations for future Annual Conferences;

Assemble speakers and panelists for conference sessions, coordinate speaker agreements, a/v needs, materials for distribution;

Work with staff and vendors to design and print all necessary signs for events;

Work with staff and Conference Host Committee to invite special guests and dignitaries to conference events;

Coordinate publicity for Annual Conference and other professional development services with Conference Host Committee and Dance/USA’s Communications Specialist;

Develop and upload content for the Annual Conference website, the conference mobile app, and the main Dance/USA website;

Develop final content for all printed material regarding programming activities;

Support Dance/USA’s Executive Director in managing the Institute for Leadership Training.

Qualifications, Skills, and General Knowledge Required

Requires exemplary attention to detail, diplomacy, tremendous interpersonal skills, ability to manage multiple tasks, strong written and communication skills, and ability to establish priorities.

Experience with planning and implementing major professional conferences and special events preferred.

A strong working knowledge of the professional not-for-profit and for-profit dance field and the needs of the field are required.

Strong technology skills including the ability to update the conference website and update the conference mobile app are required;

Ability to collaborate with many constituencies and manage group discussions well;

Bachelor Degree required.

Salary and Compensation

Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience.

DRESS REHEARSAL & PUBLIC PERFORMANCE: Community performers will join the professional dancers of Keigwin + Company in a 13-minute dance that will be performed as part of Dancing Through the Bronx. Produced by Dancing in the Street and Wave Hill, Dancing Through the Bronx is a one-hour program featuring dances by three choreographers: Larry Keigwin, James “Cricket” Colter, and Arthur Aviles.

PARTICIPATION IS FREE! But advance registration is required: Only 24 spots are available! Registration—on a First Come First Served basis. Registration Deadline: 7/21/14.


Larry Keigwin is an internationally acclaimed choreographer who has created work for national and international prominent companies, including The Martha Graham Dance Company and the Royal New Zealand Ballet; and for the current Broadway hit If/Then. Keigwin developed his “Let’s Make a Dance” workshop through the process of creating the critically acclaimed dance performance of Bolero with non-professional dancers.

    I am a performer, historian, consultant and dance writer. I am a Empire State College's online program Center for Distance Learning.  I am also a former faculty member at The Ailey School and the Alvin Ailey/Fordham University dance major program, Hunter College, Sarah Lawrence College (Guest), Kean University and The Joffrey Ballet School's Jazz and Contemporary Trainee Program.  I write on dance for The Amsterdam News, Dance Magazine and various publications.  Click below to read more about me at my home page - "About Me."
