WestFest presents the works of emerging and established movement artists through two distinct programs: 
WestFest: Top Floor presents two programs of visionary artists in a traditional theater setting at the Martha Graham Studio Theater located on the 11th Floor of the Westbeth Artists' Residence. 

WestFest: All Over Westbeth is a site-specific program showing a variety of unconventional and unique approaches to dance and space within the historic Westbeth Artists' Residence buildings.

Dworman closes out the Fall 2024 season at The Chocolate Factory Theater with the premiere of Everything Must Go, "...a dance theater work that emerges from satirical questioning into the consumption of experimental performance. It examines the ways in which capitalism provokes a savior complex in artists, urging us to demonstrate goodness amidst crisis. Dworman’s investigation into persona and the solo improvisational form continues with this stark inhabitation of character and an inventory of feeling inside the power play between performer and audience. A teacher becomes a life coach becomes The Artist becomes your mom.

The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (AAADT) ​

AAADT returns for their annual holiday engagement.  This season, titled “Legacy in Motion” also celebrates the life of Artistic Director Emerita Judith Jamison. The programs will feature world premieres: Sacred Songs by Interim Artistic Director Matthew Rushing, Finding Free by Hope Boykin, Many Angels by Lar Lubovitch, and Al-Andalus Blues by Jamar Roberts.  The season also includes the 25th anniversary staging of Ronald K. Brown’s Grace and a new production of Elisa Monte’s Treading, plus many repertory favorites including the Alvin Ailey’s iconic Revelations. Find out more here

Morris Dance Group’s reimagining of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker's, The Hard Nut, transports the classic ballet from the strait-laced 1890s to the swinging 70s, featuring raucous parties, dancing G.I. Joes, and whimsical costumes. Morris’ lyrical choreography, combined with Charles Burns’ comic book art, creates a colorful and humorous retelling of the beloved story. Featuring live music by the MMDG Music Ensemble, this production preserves the warm spirit of the holidays while offering a fresh, modern twist. Find out more here

The Harlem-based, Abdel R. Salaam’s Forces of Nature Dance Theatre returns to The Apollo with Kwanzaa: A Regeneration Celebration.  For the performances at The Apollo, audience will experience the 7 principles: unity, self-determination, and community. For the performance at NJPAC, the Company melds dance, music, and spoken word, hosted by Olabamidele Husbands, and will feature the young artists from FIYAA: Forces Incredible Youth Arts Alliance Forces of Nature Dance Theatre. Eleven Philadelphia’s Cultural Treasures fellowships totaling $1,185,000 have been awarded to Black, Latino, Asian, and Indigenous Philadelphia artists and cultural workers. The unrestricted grants recognize remarkably talented artists who make a meaningful difference in Philadelphia’s cultural landscape, using the arts to preserve cultural heritage, shine a light on important community stories, and support other local creatives. The fellowship awards range from $75,000 to $120,000, with the higher amounts awarded to artists whose contributions have made an impact on the region for 20 years or more.

This year’s fellows work in visual art, traditional craft, music, performance, and community-based art forms.

This event will be presented in-person at BAAD! (2474 Westchester Ave, Bronx 10461) on Saturday, February 22, 2025 in front of a live audience. The dance compilation will also be live streamed online. The compensation is $150 per choreographer. Each choreographer will also receive 5 hours of free rehearsal space (subject to availability) to be used before the performance. A bare bones technical rehearsal will be conducted on a first come, first served basis earlier in the day of the performance.

Against a backdrop of digital artwork by new media artist Cao Yuxi (JAMES) and an original score created and performed live by yMusic, Dear Lord… “explores humankind’s relationship with nature, life, and empathy,” notes the release.
