At Celebration of Doris Duke Artist Awards Tenth Anniversary and First-Ever Awards Show, These Two Dance Artists, Along With Four Artists in Jazz and Theater, Receive the Nation’s Largest Award for Individual Performing Artists, Totaling $3.3 Million in Unrestricted Funding.
At the tenth anniversary celebration and first-ever awards ceremony for the Doris Duke Artist Awards, the Doris Duke Foundation announced the newest class of Doris Duke Artists and the doubling of the prize. From yesterday forward, each new recipient is receiving an award of $550,000, which the foundation revealed it is upping from the prize’s previous sum of $275,000, in recognition of their transformative creative potential and ongoing impact on the fields of contemporary dance, jazz and theater.
Choreographers and performers Ayodele Casel and Rosy Simas received the award for their seismic contributions to the field of contemporary dance.
