Heartbeat Opera enters its ninth season and is seeking a full-time Executive Director. Heartbeat is looking for a visionary, ambitious, and energetic administrative leader to join their close-knit team and co-steer the
vibrant, young company into its next chapter and a thriving future.
The Executive Director is the chief administrator of the company, providing vision, strategic leadership, organization, and direction for all business aspects of Heartbeat Opera. They will lead
financial management activities, human resources, strategic planning, fundraising, and institutional advancement of this cutting-edge, fast-growing company. They will uphold the values that have been
at the center of Heartbeat’s work and its day-to-day operation. The Executive Director will work in close collaboration with the Artistic Director to carry out the vision of Heartbeat Opera.
The successful candidate for this role will be an ambitious and energetic leader who combines a passion for the performing arts with significant, relevant experience in managing the operational
and financial aspects of a not-for-profit arts organization. They will possess most of these skills and experiences:
The candidate must be willing to reside full-time in New York City, with the ability to work at least part time from Heartbeat’s Chelsea offices.
Compensation, Application Procedure, and Start Date
$70,000-75,000, commensurate with experience, with benefits (TBD), as well as paid vacation/holidays.

Heartbeat was founded in 2014 by our original Co-Artistic Directors Louisa Proske and Ethan Heard, along with our Co-Music Directors Jacob Ashworth and Daniel Schlosberg. Ethan, Louisa, Dan, and
Jacob met at Yale in the Schools of Drama and Music and led the company together through its first seven seasons. Heartbeat is entering a new phase as we move out of our founder-driven first 8
seasons; beginning this summer, both Ethan and Louisa will have stepped down from their leadership positions and will remain on the board. Jacob will begin a one-year term as Interim Artistic
Director to lead the company through the 2022-23 season, during which the organization will conduct a search for a new full-time Artistic Director. Dan will assume the role of Music Director. The
Executive Director will work closely with the Interim Artistic Director to steer us into this next phase.
