Under artistic director Yuanyuan Tan, Lady White Snake makes its international premiere from the
Shanghai Grand Theatre. Presented in the Year of the Snake, Lady White Snake is a reimagining of a Chinese legend and offers a contemporary interpretation of one of China’s Four Great Folktales "...using the language of dance to explore A Woman's Journey of Self-Discovery. At once timeless and urgently modern, the production examines identity, autonomy, and personal transformation," and features a cast of international dancers and the Shanghai Opera House Dance Ensemble, notes the release. Mark Morris Dance Group launches its 45th anniversary season with two programs that include two premieres and live music each night. In Program A, the world premiere set to the music of James P. Johnson, plus The Muir (2010), Mosaic and United (1993), and Silhouettes (1999). In Program B a debut set to the music of John Luther Adams, alongside Ten Suggestions (1981), The Argument (1999), and Going Away Party (1990). Find out more here
