L'Alliance New York presents its annual Bastille Day celebration under the theme of the Paris Summer Games! Inclued will be the reenactment of the 1967 performance of Blank Placard Dance, replay by French choreographer Anne Collod. "Originally created by Anna Halprin in response to the Vietnam war and social unrest in the U.S., Anne Collod remounts this seminal work for 30 amateur dancers carrying blank signs accompanied by a marching band heading uptown. Following the original dance’s protocol, Bastille Day audiences are invited to participate by proposing statements for the blank placards: What would YOU like written on these signs? Exploring the place of performance in urban settings, this participatory project demonstrates the enduring power of art across generations at the crossroads of happenings, dance, and activist art," notes the release. Attendees can also join in games, film screenings, an interactive photography exhibition, dance to a live DJ, savor rosé and bubbly, and more. Find out more here
