As part of the La MaMa Moves! Dance Festival, curated by Nicky Paraiso, "John Jasperse Projects will premiere a new evening-length work that is built around a collection of real-life, intergenerational mentor/protegé relationships that exist within the team of collaborators. This celebration of the arc of life in dance and the generosity of the act of transmission is at the heart of the work. In many ways, dance has often been denigrated through sexism precisely because it is linked to sensorial, intuitive, empathetic, and responsive processes–attributes that are typically thought to be feminine," notes the release. The Company will offer Graham classics plus contemporary works by Baye & Asa and Hofesh Shechter. Graham’s "Americana" solos will be paired with Agnes de Mille’s Rodeo and Jamar Roberts’s We the People. Graham’s Greek-themed Clytemnestra Act II and Errand Into the Maze, both with sets by Isamu Noguchi, will be presented with Deaths and Entrances. The season will also include new works from Graham dancer Xin Ying and choreographer and Graham 2 director Virginie Mécène. Find out more here
