Martín Santangelo and Soledad Barrio brings their new evening-length work, Legacy of Our Dreams under artistic guidance from Mark McDonald. The work "Examines dreams that are by turns nightmarish and hopeful...meditates upon the passage of time, fading youth, and the strength that comes with age—all of which Santangelo, Barrio, and Noche Flamenca are experiencing firsthand, after collaborating for more than three decades," notes the release.
"Santangelo and Barrio developed their 2024 work Searching for Goya after being influenced by recent political and global events that inspired them to explore Goya’s artistry. Their collaboration with McDonald ...for this project found considerable resonance in Goya’s graphics and paintings, revealing the horrors of war, the monsters that live within us, the humiliation of the humble, and the value of the strength and sensibility of animals. The complexity of content and emotion motivated them to reimagine Goya’s works through flamenco. In The New York Times, Brian Seibert remarked that the production displayed “the company’s signature virtues: excellent musicians…distinguished guest dancers …and a climactic solo by its star, Soledad Barrio…There is little in dance as intense as a solo by Barrio.,” adds the release.
