Revelations will close every Ailey performance at Lincoln Center, June 13–17. On March 30, 1958, Alvin Ailey launched Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, forever changing the face of American dance. We honor Mr. Ailey’s legacy with this special video performance of the section of Mr. Ailey’s Revelations called “I Wanna Be Ready,” danced by veteran Ailey company member Matthew Rushing. Filmed in Rogers, Texas, where Mr. Ailey was born and lived as a young child, the video also features live accompaniment by five local singers. Watch "I Wanna Be Ready" The Career Center at The Actors Fund is pleased to announce its collaboration with renowned dance researcher, writer, author and Professor Sally Sommer, Ph.D., entitled Dance(r) Sustainability: Expand Your Vision. Launching in June 2018, the two-day workshop will be facilitated by Dr. Sommer and Alessandra Larson, M.A. at The Actors Fund Times Square office.
Crafted to open dancers’ minds to new ways of thinking about the job possibilities that surround them, the workshop will focus on the evolving dance ecosystem, dancers’ unique array of skills, and the ever-changing work environment - with the goal of illuminating new ways for dancers to meet their creative and career needs. “The magical combination is having the ‘arts gift,’ an all-consuming obsession that gives life meaning and happiness – and also having the courage and imagination to discover how best support yourself and your obsession,” says Sommer. “This is the crucial discussion today, the essential undertaking of a life in the arts in the 21st century.” The Actors Fund is national human services organization serving everyone in arts and entertainment through social services and career development and management. Sommer believes that, “The Actors Fund cares about dancers’ survival at all stages of their dance careers, offering smart classes and wise guidance that keeps dancers flexible and thinking about what are the best strategic moves to choose to support them and their dancing.” To learn more or be a part of the June classes, email careercentereast@actorsfund.org and check out https://actorsfund.org/workshops/dancer-sustainability-expand-your-vision-nyc.
