For one-night-only, FJK Dance returns for the final performance of their “Black Box” Fusion of Culture and Dance repertoire series. Slated on the program is DUM TAK, an original work in which dancers perform in pointe shoes, Latin heel and bare feet in a blend of ballet and Latin salsa, and features Rig and Tabla (Middle Eastern) drumming.  Find out more here

As part of The Shed’s “Open Call,” It’s Showtmie NYC will present their latest performance creation, Twogether We’re One, “…a testament to what it takes to build a family of street dancers,” according to the release.  This is a free event. MoMA seeking performers of color for Pope.L exhibition

MoMA The Museum of Modern Art seeks diverse performance artists to be part of an upcoming exhibition of Pope.L.

There are two distinct roles, 1) a man of Middle Eastern, Southern Indian, Native American, or Hispanic descent, aged 18-22, of short stature (approximately 4’11” to 5’2”), with a slight build, and dark hair; and 2) a woman of African-American, African, South American, Southern Indian or Hispanic descent, aged 45+, of medium to heavy build.

MoMA is seeking qualified applicants with knowledge and experience of stillness, and slow, highly controlled movements, as well as a high level of comfort with the ingestion of edible materials. Each performer is expected to perform one time within the exhibition period (October 21, 2019 – January 2020).

Mabou Mines’ performance initiative SUITE/Space, now in its third year provides artistic mentorship, rehearsal space, and public performances in our state of the art 99-seat theater to two mid-career artists that share Mabou Mines’ commitment to breaking new ground in form and content.

Who is eligible: SUITE/Space is open to artists of color from historically underrepresented communities who exhibit a commitment to experimentation and a collaborative creative process. Multimedia, music, dance, theater, and cross-disciplinary projects are accepted. Proposed projects should be either previously produced or performance ready.
 
When: The 2020 applicants will be notified in late October. The program will run from November through February, with final performances taking place February 18-23, 2020.

The Clark Center 60th Anniversary Tribute – Various Artists

Celebrating Clark Center’s 60th anniversary, “this showcase upholds the mission of a space to cultivate emerging artists, with room for dancers and choreographers from every demographic to feel comfortable to create the work they want to make. It has long served as an incubator for young talent and many of the choreographers who worked at the center have gone on to create their own companies. Much of the all-star lineup has been around since the center first opened,” notes the release. On the program is PHILADANCO!, 5Plus Ensemble featuring dancers 50 years of age and older, (Hope Clarke, Dyane Harvey and more), Juel D. Lane, Amy Hall Garner and the young dancers of The HSA Dance Ensemble from the Harlem School of The Arts, led by former Ailey dancer, Aubrey Lynch.  Find out more here

Maze, an “…immersive dance-theater piece co-directed by choreographer Gray (The D.R.E.A.M. Ring) and theater artist Schaal (Go Forth, Jack &), premieres with performances by masters of flexn, a form of street dance created in Brooklyn, New York, with roots in Jamaican bruk up,” notes the release.  Find out more here

    I am a performer, historian, consultant and dance writer.
