Save the date! Registration opens December 2020.
Introducing the Symposium Programming Committee The Symposium Programming Committee exists to advise Dance/NYC in the programming and direction of Dance/NYC’s yearly Symposium—and, by extension, further the dance field in NYC. For the latest program and registration information, visit Dance.NYC. We are so pleased to introduce our new Kinetic Light Fellows: Shoshana Freund, an emerging lighting designer, and Mel Chua, a hacker, engineer, scholar, and multimodal polyglot. Shoshana and Mel will be mentored by Kinetic Light artists Michael Maag and Laurel Lawson, respectively. This pilot fellowship program is focused on advancing the disability arts and culture movement. It enables disabled artists, designers, technologists, and/or arts administrators to practice their craft alongside Kinetic Light artists, to develop their work in the context of disability art, and to support our groundbreaking work. For the pilot program, Fellows were accepted through a nomination process. Future programs will be open, for application, to a broad range of artistic and technical disciplines. This fellowship is not designed for dancers or actors in an onstage capacity. Stay tuned for future program opportunities and please join us in enthusiastically welcoming Shoshana and Mel! FROM: The Founders of Ecole des Sables - Germaine Acogny et Helmut Vogt Dakar, Sénégal - After 22 years of an extraordinary journey, guided by experience, intuition and under the protection of the ancestors; the Ecole des Sables has an important message to convey. The Founders of this place and the creators of the spirit of the Ecole des Sables have decided to open a new chapter; in order to develop the past with new visions, to set up revised objectives and to let evolve, under their guidance, a new generation, the Future of the Ecole des Sables. A key position for these steps is the Artistic Direction of Ecole des Sables, managed in the past with rigour, proficiency and sensitivity by Germaine Acogny and in recent years by Patrick Acogny, always keeping in mind the objectives and vision of the Founders. Together with motivated teams, we can consider that the history of Ecole des Sables, known, appreciated and respected in Africa and throughout the world, is a "success story" and a dream that has become a reality. With all this wealth of knowledge and all that has been built up to date, the Ecole des Sables wants to open a new page, and to nourish and create new dreams while respecting the foundations of all those who have brought us to this new chapter. After carefully assessing their competences, the Founders Germaine Acogny and Helmut Vogt made the decision to hand over the role of Artistic Direction and custodian of the Ecole des Sables to two of its trusted Alumni. They both know the Ecole des Sables well and are holders of the Acogny Technique Diploma. They are artists who continue to prove themselves in their careers as dancers, choreographers, young artistic leaders who are ready to put their energy, enthusiasm, creativity and commitment into their new mission. To see Ecole des Sables and its entire team even bigger, stronger and driven by excellence. We would like to welcome Alesandra Seutin and Wesley Ruzibiza to the Ecole des Sables team. They will be working in a team with Paul Sagne, who has been working and evolving within Ecole des Sables for the last 15 years and who has now been appointed Administrative Director.
