To close the ongoing series “DoublePlus,” Jawole Willa Jo Zollar curates Marguerite Hemmings + Katrina Reid in A Split-Bill Evening.  “…Hemmings explores an aggressive practice of freedom and Katrina Reid embodies the tenacious spirit,” according to the release.  Find out more here

NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts
Pilobolus’ Shadowland, described as “…a theatrical experience…a euphoric mix of shadow-theater, dance, circus, and rock concert,” in the release, continues for one more week.  Shadowland tells a story of a girl’s “…coming of age…[and includes]…a world-premiere finale that plays tribute to New York City,” adds the release.  Find out more here
 
Souleymane Badolo
BAM Fisher

The Burkina Faso-born, Brooklyn-based choreographer and dancer Badolo closes out the 2015 Next Wave Festival with the world premiere of Yimbégré, which in the Mooré language means beginning.  Badolo is joined by dancer Sylvestre Koffitse Akakapo-Adzaku and live accompaniment by Burkinabé master drummer Mamoudou Konat.  Find out more here

The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns for their annual month-long season at New York City Center for the 45th consecutive year under artistic director Robert Battle with premieres, new productions and repertory favorites.  Find out more here

Choreographer/director Zuštiak presents Custodians of Beauty which “…Merg[e] dance, live music and visual arts, [and] examines the multiplicity of concepts of beauty and its permanence …” notes the release.  Find out more here

Co-curated by Beth Gill and Cori Olinghouse, the Movement Research Festival Fall 2015 titled “Vanishing Points,” will present three evenings of “…acclaimed experimentalists, highlighting and juxtaposing their varied investigations…” according to the release.  Nelisiwe Xaba in an evening of solo works (12/3), Gwen Welliver’s What a Horse! and Abby Zbikowski’s double nickels on a dime (12/4) and Melinda Ring in Impossible Dances: Past and Future (12/5).  Find out more here

German dance-theater choreographer Sasha Waltz returns to BAM with Continu, "derived from two acclaimed choreographic projects created in 2009 as site-specific works to inaugurate museum spaces—David Chipperfield's Neues Museum Berlin and Zaha Hadid’sMAXXI in Rome," notes the release.  Find out more here

The 58th Annual Dance Magazine Awards will honor flamenco artist Soledad Barrio, American Ballet Theatre principal Marcelo Gomes, former ballerina and current artistic director of National Ballet of Canada Karen Kain, dance archivist, writer and historian David Vaughan and founding artistic director of Urban Bush Women Jawole Willa Jo Zollar.  Find out more here

    I am a performer, historian, consultant and dance writer.
