Concluding "NY Quadrille," the three-week long engagement conceived & curated by choreographer Lar Lubovitch will be Rashaun Mitchell + Silas Riener, Beth Gill and Donna Uchizono Company. Mitchell and Riener—who met while performing in the Merce Cunningham Dance Company—“work with structured improvisations to create dance that is both formal and radical,” Gill makes her Joyce debut with a world premiere, Pitkin Grove, “…utilizing symbolism and storytelling to weave surreal landscapes and rogue characters in a dreamlike space,” and Uchizono returns to The Joyce with a world premiere featuring eight dancers,” notes the release. The annual two-week festival at New York City Center which brings dance to many for just $15, returns for year 15 with five diverse programs including performances by Dance Theatre of Harlem, National Ballet of China, Rennie Harris Puremovement, Pam Tanowitz, Acosta Danza, Paul Taylor Company, Nederlands Dans Theater, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and many more. Judson Dance Theater:The Work Is Never Done (Exhibition & Performances)

The five-month long celebration of dance at the Judson Theatre continues with performance programs by Deborah Hay, David Gordon, Lucinda Childs, Steve Paxton and Trisha Brown’s “Moving-Image Installation.” Organized by Ana Janevski and Thomas Lax, and on view only at The Museum of Modern Art (September 16-February 3, 2019), Judson Dance Theater explores the unique moment in the 1960s when a group of choreographers, visual artists, composers, and filmmakers made use of a local church to present ground-breaking cross-disciplinary performances. The history of Judson is a key part of New York City’s history, taking its name from the Judson Memorial Church in Greenwich Village where they presented performances; these artists challenged traditional understandings of choreography.” Find out more here
Nacera Belaza
Dancespace Project

The Algerian-born Parisian, Belaza who explores minimalism and Algerian cultural practice in her work, will present Sur le Fil where she “…applies a rigorous set of rules to both the body and mind of three dancers to explore the paradoxical space between submission and abandon,” according to the release. On Saturday evening’s program Belaza performs the tryptich Sur le Fil, La Nuit, and La Traversée. Find out more here

Peak Performances

Peak Performances commissioned by Driscoll to Create the Third Installment in the Series, Thank You for Coming: Space, which will make its world premiere at the Alexander Kasser Theater, April 11–14, 2019. “These humorous, exuberant performances turn the constructed relationship between the audience and performer into its own fluid medium, bringing them together in the co-creation of a new reality,” notes the release.
