Time to Talk is a multimedia dance-theater piece inspired by Dava's experiences of oppression and racial bias within academia. Dynamic fluid dance, live music, spoken word, projection art, and dialogue to call attention to racial inequalities within American concert dance and society at large. Performed with critically acclaimed Composer/Saxophonist/Clarinetist Mike McGinnis who created an original score that includes an arrangement of the song Skin, by Stew and Heidi Rodewald. Projection art by interdisciplinary artist Andre Zachery and lighting by Sarah Hamilton. Time to Talk aims to encourage audience members to question how they may knowingly or unknowingly contribute to maintaining social norms that support a status quo of inequity.

SPRING 18 BAC SPACE RESIDENT ARTISTS

Choreographer Ligia Lewis will use melodrama as a point of departure for Water Will (in Melody), a devised choreographic work for three performers.

Dance/theater artist David Neumann will examine questions from Quantum Mechanics and place privilege, masculinity, and race into the cosmic scale.

Choreographer Jimena Paz's research is focused on the urge to move within and around opinions of foreignness, an urge rooted in the untrained body.

Choreographer RoseAnne Spradlin will develop a new work exploring the possibility of internal exhaustion, the dancer's drive toward self-exposure, and the cycling of the form through apogee and perigee.

The lineup also includes: Composer and pianist Tarek Yamani and Performance artist Sacha Yanow.

Save the Date! BAC Space Studio Showings

On April 12, BAC Space artists invite audiences into the studio for a glimpse of the creative process and an opportunity to see works in varying stages of development. The showings are open to the public, free to attend, and reservations will be available online at 12PM on Monday, April 2.
