The Company will continue its celebration of the Lunar New Year: Year of the Rabbit.  Before the show, the Arts Insider event featuring a screening of the short documentary "Unity: Choreographer Nai-Ni Chen Remembered," is shown with commentary by Chen's husband, Andrew N. Chiang.

 The performance is for all ages, combining traditional Chinese celebration with modern flair. This year, to honor the 50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop, the Company will present a new Lion dance to the Chinese Drum, Cymbal integrated Hip Hop rhythm. The steps of the lion have also been choreographed to include Hip-Hop dance movement with a contemporary attitude. The new work is a collaborative effort from Company’s Director of New and Contemporary Dance, PeiJu Chien-Pott, assisted by Yvonne H. Chow, Lion Dance Master Henry Lee, and Hip-Hop legends Kwikstep and Rokafella.  Find out more here

Bill T. Jones and Associate Artistic Director Janet Wong, announced Miguel Gutierrez as the 2023-2024 Randjelović/Stryker Resident Commissioned Artist (RCA). The award is one of the most substantial awards for a choreographer in the United States and a significant resource for mid-career artists. Gutierrez is a choreographer, composer, performer, singer, writer, educator, podcaster, visual artist, and arts advocate who has been based in Lenapehoking/Brooklyn for twenty five years. His work creates empathetic and irreverent spaces outside of traditional discourse - he believes in an approach to art making that is fierce, fragile, empathetic, political, and poetic.

Ping Chong and Company (PCC) will share the bill as part of the “All Islands Connect Underwater” series in All Islands Connect Underwater: a Celebration of Ping Chong.  Founder and artistic director, Chung will be celebrated alongside Allardice his longtime professional partner and executive director.  Both retired from their leadership roles with the company at the end of 2022. "The event, hosted by playwright, author, and performance artist Jessica Hagedorn, will take the form of a party punctuated by brief performances.  Artists participating in All Islands Connect Underwater include Chinese Theatre Works, the organization that preserves and promotes the traditional Chinese performing arts and creates new performance works that bridge Eastern and Western aesthetics and forms; New York City-based all-women, trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming Brazilian Samba Reggae drum line Fogo Azul; legendary multidisciplinary artist and one of Ping Chong’s earliest and most formative collaborators, Meredith Monk; dancer, choreographer, and founder of Muna Tseng Dance Projects Muna Tseng, whose moving dance-theater solo performance SlutForArt was written and directed by Chong; and legendary American jazz group The Jazz Passengers," notes the release,  Find out more here

​Alexei Ratmansky is leaving the American Ballet Theater after 13 years as its artist in residence in June.  Ratmansky in now appointed as New York City Ballet's Artist in Residence and will begin his new position in August 2023 and will create a world premiere for the Company's 2024 winter season.

Announcing Imagining Digital & Black Diaspora Spring 2023 Season

Gibney’s Spring 2023 season—directed and curated by Eva Yaa Asantewaa—announces its virtual programming featuring Imagining Digital and Black Diaspora! Each series provides a forum for the sharing of vital ideas and insightful perspectives through a variety of virtual presentations, and discussions. From January 17 through May 24, Imagining Digital features seven online events, as well as the continuation of Imagining: A Gibney Journal, a bimonthly online publication.

Black Diaspora, a virtual, peer support program serving up-and-coming, Black and Afro-Latinx-identified dance and performance artists from various cultural backgrounds and aesthetic traditions, also continues February 11 – June 12 with nine sessions, including co-presentations in the 2023 BlackLight Summit.

Workshop with DELIRIOUS Dances for the 3 RITES project 

DELIRIOUS Dances is looking for two dancers to perform in the upcoming premiere of the 3 RITES: Life, Liberty, Happiness project in Brooklyn, NY in Fall 2023 (and possible future touring). You are invited to attend a workshop to explore movement material from 3 RITES in a small group setting with a few other invited dancers and company members.
You are welcome to attend either or both sessions on Saturday, January 28 from 4-6:30pm and Sunday, January 29 from 1-3:30pm (both times include a group warm up). Dancers need to be available for rehearsals in March, April and July 31-August 13, 2023 as well as the premiere performances in September and November 2023 (exact dates TBC). Compensation for rehearsals and performances is $20/hour.
Saturday, January 28 from 4-6:30pm
Sunday, January 29 from 1-3:30pm
