US Department of State and Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) announce sixth season of cultural diplomacy program DanceMotion USASM
Participants KEIGWIN + COMPANY, Stephen Petronio Company, and Reggie Wilson/Fist and Heel Performance Group to launch international residencies in 2017

The US Department of State and Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) today announced the three American dance companies selected to participate in the sixth season of DanceMotion USA
SM—the dynamic, cultural diplomacy program that supports United States foreign policy goals by engaging international audiences through educational opportunities, cultural exchange, and performance. DanceMotion USASM is a people-to-people international exchange initiative of the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, produced by BAM.

Season six features the following companies and world regions:
•    KEIGWIN + COMPANY (New York, NY) will travel to Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, and Tunisia
•    Stephen Petronio Company (New York, NY) will travel to Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam
•    Reggie Wilson/Fist and Heel Performance Group (Brooklyn, NY) will travel to the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Panama

Participating companies will embark on consecutive, four-week-long international performance and exchange residencies.
DanceMotion USASM presents professional American dance to global audiences who may not otherwise be exposed to such work. Companies engage in outreach events, workshops, master classes, and media interviews; organize discussions about arts management and technical production with local artists and audiences in a variety of venues and settings. A particular area of focus is working with diverse communities and promoting the empowerment of women, people with disabilities, LGBTI communities and at-risk youth.  A US-based exchange component to the program is also being planned.

Calling All Bedford-Stuyvesant ArtistsInterested in Connecting with Their Community

3/23/2016

STooPS is looking for artists of all mediums and genres to share engaging, site-specific work this summer on various STooPS throughout Bed-Stuy.

We are looking for all types of art including, but not limited to dance, theater, music, poetry and spoken word, visual art, jewelry making, textile design, film and video, hair design, etc. We’re especially looking for interactive pieces that focus on engaging the community with the artist and/or each other. Works will be part of STooPS, a community-building event that uses the arts to bring people of Bed-Stuy outside and promote social interaction amongst artists, residents, homeowners, and businesses.

Last year’s event attracted nearly 300 attendees and, more importantly, helped create lasting relationships between community members and artists. Given our hyperlocal focus, preference will be given to artists who are residents of or demonstrate a connection to Bed-Stuy. Performance pieces should be no more than 10 minutes.
All artists will be paid a modest stipend for their participation in STooPS.

The fourth annual STooPS event will be on Sunday, August 14, 2016 from 12pm-5pm.

Please visit
http://www.stoopsbedstuy.org/artist-submission-form/to apply. You will be asked to submit your bio or artistic resume, headshot, and work samples, along with a proposal/description of the work you intend to share (no more 150 words).

For questions, please email info@stoopsbedstuy.org. Paper applications are also available upon request. For paper applications, please call (347) 927-8892.

ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY APRIL 22, 2016. NO EXCEPTONS.
