Raja Feather Kelly/TF3T
Chelsea Factory
October 8-10

JACK, and the feath3r theory presents UGLY Part 3: BLUE, the conclusion to Kelly’s opus on Queer Black subjectivity in the mainstream media.  Conceived, directed, and performed by Kelly and Company, the trilogy began as a search for a metaphor to juxtapose Kelly’s identity as a Queer Black artist with his feeling of being an outsider to the mainstream Queer Black experience. The trilogy closes with Kelly bridging his highly personal journey to one that is both universal and Alien. In UGLY Part 3: BLUE, the Alien—and the audience—are completely distinct and able to examine the popular culture that has shaped them and from which they desire to be freed. In Kelly’s words, “We are all searching for ourselves; there are too many labels and not enough meaning.”  Find out more here

BAX Announces 2023 Emerge NYC Applications Open

Picture"Emerge is the co-learning environment that I deserve–it undoes the elitism that school has infused in me to survive.” – Emerge ‘21 Alum, Jason Wang
BAX Presents - EmergeNYC—a program of BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange in partnership with Abrons Arts Center—is an incubator and affinity network for socially engaged artists to develop their creative voice, explore the intersections of art and activism, and connect to a thriving community of BIPOC, migrant, and LGBTQIA+ practitioners who challenge dominant narratives through cultural resistance. The programs—designed for artists who are either beginning their careers or feeling a sense of urgency to move into new territory—provide an opportunity to spend an intensive period of training, exchange, mentorship, and challenging conversations with a specific focus on racial justice and cultural transformation. Rather than training in one specific craft, participants immerse themselves in a challenging, supportive environment, engaging with multiple lineages and approaches to art-making. They delve into issues of personal significance as they engage in the work, and with one another, as their whole selves. Participants leave the programs having deeply researched questions that become the heart of their artistic and activist work.
