Tap City, The New York City Tap Festival  produced by The American Tap Dance Foundation (ATDF) returns for its 23rd year with the week-long celebration of tap dance in many forms.

The celebration includes special events, local and international tap dance artists, choreographic residencies, master classes, a Copasetic Boat Ride around Manhattan, a walking tour of New York’s famed tap dance landmarks,  ATDF’s Tap Future concert and Tap Dance Awards,  plus Rhythm in Motion, Tap City’s  tap dance concert performance.  This year’s Rhythm in Motion will include a look back at classic tap dance works in addition to showing new choreography by ATDF’s Artists-In-Residence. Tap on Tap, an “all abilities” tap dance company focusing on adaptation, inclusion, and the integration of tap dancers and tap dancers with disabilities, will also be included in this year’s performance.​  Find out more here

The Company will premiere the evening length choreopoem PURPLE: A Ritual in Nine Spells as part of the Lincoln Center's Summer for the City.  "PURPLE illuminates the power of “deep sisterhood for social change” through ritualistic dance-theater. This is an evening length performance work for a multi-generational, femme ensemble of 12. It is iterative, based in oral & embodied herstories, centers sacred ritual, honors feedback and collective decision-making, and is inspired by beloved ancestor Ntozake Shange," according to the release.

Known as the color that Southern families paint their front porches to ward off bad spirits, Haint Blu uses performance as a center and source of healing, taking audiences from movement into stillness and rest. The production arose from the urgent concern for the wellness of Black Women+. With its focus on remembering, reclaiming, releasing, and restoring, the work explores what has been lost across generations and what can be recovered," according to the release.  Find out more here

Join multi-disciplinary artist Edisa Weeks in the journey of making 1,865 roots out of paper and twine, for the installation and performance of 3 RITES: Liberty. 1865 represents the last year of legalized chattel slavery in America.

We will also be releasing the Life Zine, which is one of four limited edition accordion fold art zines about the 3 RITES project. The zine includes images from creative residencies to develop life, the poem/essay “Movement to Suffocate” by James Scruggs, and graphic design by Natalia Viteri. Zine images included below.

    I am a performer, historian, consultant and dance writer.
