This year Tap city, the New York City tap festival is  virtual with master classes, performances and community events. The celebration will close with TAP IT OUT, a live performance in the middle of Times Square, where tap dancers on individual portable boards in a structured improvisation, followed by unison choreography and the "Shim Sham." The Dream of the Audience, curated by artistic director Judy Hussie-Taylor brings artist to the virtual space to present works built while in-residence at Danspace’s historic venue in St. Mark’s Church, and more.
The Dream of the Audience features the premiere of a new film by Ishmael Houston-Jones in collaboration with josé e. abad, Snowflake Calvert, Keith Hennessy, and Kevin O’Connor followed by live conversation with Houston-Jones & Miguel Gutierrez.  Also featured will be films by Okwui Okpokwasili, Eiko Otake with Joan Jonas, and Reggie Wilson. All films will be available for online viewing July 1-Aug 31.  Find out more here

  • Annual operating budget of $100,000 or more, including in-kind support
  • Institutional history of at least five (5) years professional performance experience
  • Led by and/or established to serve communities of African Ancestry and/or Origin
  • US-Based dance company ONLY
  • Vested interest and support of IABD, demonstrated through maintained IABD membership
  • 501(c)3 tax-exempt status ONLY; fiscally sponsored organizations are not eligible

Media & Communications Manager

Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Interviews to begin the week of July 5, 2021. The position start date is August 30, 2021. A paid training period for the position will take place between July 15 and August 13, 2021.

We will invite 6-8 applicants for individual interviews that will take place virtually over Zoom. After the individual interviews, we anticipate inviting 2-3 individuals for a second round interview, which may take place over Zoom or in-person. For accessibility purposes, if you need accommodations to interview over Zoom, please let us know these in your application. 
  • Media & Communications Manager is a 30 hour/week position at Movement Research, with a strong possibility of moving to 35 hours/week in January 2022. 
  • Schedule is expected to be 3-4 days per week in the office with the potential for some remote work. 
  • The position is paid hourly; compensation is $22/hour. 
  • Employee contribution 403(b) plan is available. 
  • Movement Research Employees receive free access to Movement Research classes and selected workshops.

The University of Chicago’s Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts announces the appointment of Princess Mhoon as the new Strategic Program Manager to lead its Chicago Black Dance Legacy Project, which celebrates the impact of Black dance in the performing arts and provides critical financial and operational support to Chicago-based Black dance makers. 

“Princess, a Chicago gem and powerhouse, is returning home! I am grateful the Chicago Black Dance Legacy Project will be under Princess’s very capable leadership and excited to witness her mastery at work,” says Regina Perry-Carr, Artistic Director of Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago.

Pentacle
 is very pleased to announce the first generational leadership transition in its 45-year history! On July 1st, 2021 Clarissa Soto Josephs will assume the role of Executive Director of Pentacle, the first BIPOC woman and the first non-founder to hold this top leadership role at the organization. Longtime Director Mara Greenberg will step down as the head of Pentacle, and will be a director of the organization, continuing to have a role in various capacities for the foreseeable future.

    I am a performer, historian, consultant and dance writer.
