The Black Immersive Creators Grant is a new initiative founded by leaders in the experiential space. This is an annual grant in the amount of $10,000. Our ultimate goal is to facilitate the creation of immersive work by Black-identifying creators, which would otherwise not be created without the funding offered by this grant. This funding may be used either directly toward the creation of the immersive work(s) or indirectly by offsetting unrelated costs of the creator that would impair the freedom and comfort of practicing their creativity and art.

The National Endowment for the Arts Announces Research Grant Funding Opportunity - Webiner - 9/9

8/12/2015

Grant guidelines webinar scheduled for September 9, 2015

As the federal agency of record on arts research, the National Endowment for the Arts is doing its part to invest in new arts research with the latest Research: Art Works grant funding opportunity. This program supports research for projects that investigate the value and impact of the arts on individuals and communities. Prospective applicants can learn about the grant process at an upcoming NEA grant guidelines webinar on September 9, 2015 at 3:00 PM ET. Register in advance. An archive of the webinar will be available on the NEA's website in the webinar section shortly after the event. The deadline for submitting an application is October 20, 2015.

Research: Art Works funding opportunity

The NEA is interested in research which will measure or clarify one or more factors, characteristics, and conditions of the U.S. arts ecosystem, as well as research which will investigate the direct and indirect benefits of arts participation on health and well-being, cognitive capacity, learning, creativity, community livability, or economic prosperity. Previous NEA funded research papers can be found at arts.gov.

Some of the most compelling research on the value and the impact of the arts comes from other fields, such cognitive neuroscience research on the arts’ role in brain function, or urban planning research on the links between the arts and community vitality. In this spirit, the NEA Research: Art Works grant program encourages applications from diverse research fields, such as, sociology, economics, psychology, medicine and health, education, and urban and regional planning) and research partnerships between arts practitioners and researchers in addition to projects that address topics on the value and/or impact of the arts.

Projects may include, but are not limited to:
  • Primary and/or secondary data analyses;
  • Psychological studies that take place in clinical or non-clinical settings;
  • Third-party evaluations of an arts program's effectiveness and impact;
  • Statistically-driven meta-analyses of existing research so as to provide a fresh understanding of the value and/or impact of the arts;
  • Studies that address economic impact;
  • Translational research that moves scientific evidence toward the development, testing, and standardization of new arts-related programs, practices, models, or tools that can be used easily by other practitioners and researchers.

The NEA anticipates awarding up to 20 grants in the range of $10,000 to $30,000. The deadline for application submission is October 20, 2015 for projects that can begin as early as May 1, 2016. Eligible organizations are U.S-based organizations that are nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3); units of state or local government; or federally recognized tribal communities or tribes. This may include, but is not limited to, colleges and universities. More NEA Research: Art Works grant application information and guidelines can be found at http://arts.gov/grants-organizations/research-art-works.

LMCC's Arts Grants Application - Deadline- 9/15

Dear Friend,
As you may know, LMCC’s grants are available to Manhattan-based artists and non-profit organizations working in a range of artistic disciplines to aid them in sharing diverse experiences with audiences: on stages, in exhibition halls, classrooms, recreation rooms, public spaces, and unexpected locations.

I am happy to share the news that the application for our grant programs is now open!

Due to important changes to LMCC's Manhattan Arts Grant programs this year, we strongly encourage you to attend an information session this summer. We are pleased to partner with many organizations throughout Manhattan to offer these sessions across the borough. Information Sessions offer an overview of the specific grant programs and useful information to help applicants put their best foot forward. A calendar of Information Sessions may be found here.
Please RSVP for the one that you wish to attend.

This year, artists and non-profit organizations are invited to apply for New York City and New York State funding through a single application process, under the program Creative Engagement – which replaces two programs: Manhattan Community Arts Fund (MCAF) and The Fund for Creative Communities (The Fund). If you were previously eligible for MCAF and/or The Fund you are encouraged to apply to Creative Engagement. The maximum grant amount for a single application will be $8,000 for a project that will take place between January 1–December 31, 2016.

Creative Engagement provides support to individual artists and organizations to engage and enrich the public through the arts. Often a launching pad for emerging artists and organizations, these grants respond directly to the need for financial support of artists living and working in Manhattan and to the richness and diversity of arts programming they offer across the borough.

LMCC continues to support teaching artists and arts organizations working in partnership with Manhattan public schools through the Creative Curricula grant program.

LMCC-supported projects forge connections between artists and their communities through presentation, arts education, and hands-on participation. Methods of public engagement range from the creation and presentation of professional productions to student, senior and other amateur participatory arts programs and arts education projects. We are proud of our grantees, whose events reach over 300,000 audience members throughout Manhattan, including over 40,000 seniors, and over 45,000 youth.

The deadline for Creative Engagement is September 15.
The deadline for Creative Curricula is October 14.

Please consider applying and help us spread the word about this opportunity for Manhattan-based artists. Enjoy your summer!

Warmly,
Kay Takeda
LMCC Director, Grants & Services
