Parker Woods (cellist/narrator/ movement) and George (choreographer/dancer) will present the world premiere or Difficult Grace.
The multimedia work centered on the Great Migration will feature film, visual art, the poetry of Amiri Baraka and Dudley Randall, and music written for and with Woods by Freida Abtan, Monty Adkins, Fredrick Gifford, Michael Gordon, Nathalie Joachim, and Pierre Alexandre Tremblay. This production also includes newly commissioned music by Ted Hearne and Devonté Hynes, a.k.a. Blood Orange.  There is also an virtual version on November 22.  Find out more here

Christopher “Unpezverde” Núñez

Núñez, a visually impaired choreographer and disability advocate is expanding audio description as an art form in his latest work, The Circle or Prophetic Dream “…anthropological research on how the body and sound inhabit social space as new forms of nomadism, in the midst of the current international migration crisis caused by displacement, climate change and land appropriation,” according to the release.  Find out more here

The choreographer Hannah Garner and her company, 2nd Best Dance Company will present RED, "...a piece that walks the fuzzy, shag-carpet line between dance performance and narrative play, leaning into both text and movement to tell an abstracted version of a well known fictional story of survival: Little Red Riding Hood. By cycling through distinct characters, both true to the original story and entirely new, 2nd Best Dance Company explores how we confront the many-faced “big bads” that lurk on our personal wooded paths," according to the release.  Find out more here

Returning for an in-person presentation of Chasing Magic, her 2019 digital Joyce debut, the tap dancer Ayodele Casel will again be joined by jazz musician and composer Arturo O’Farrill. Directed by frequent collaborator Torya Beard—who also served as creative director for Casel’s Joyce debut—“…the piece is an ode to craft and community, a celebratory display of artistic encounters that endure no matter when and where you leave them,” according to the release. The Burkina Faso choreographer, Coulibaly and his Faso Danse Théâtre will premiere Wakatt, with live music by Magic Malik Orchestra at NYU Skirball. Wakatt which means "our times" in the Mooré language of Burkina Faso, features 10 dancers and three musicians.  Find out more here

Weeks' ’world premiere of Action Songs/Protest Dances, a live music and dance event will feature five original songs commissioned by composers/musicians Taina Asili, Spirit McIntyre, and Martha Redbone. Three of the songs are inspired by the life, speeches, and writings of civil rights activist James Forman (1928-2005), whose personal archives are housed at the Queens College Rosenthal Library; and two are about social justice issues in America today. Khady Kamara Named First Executive Director of the Perelman Performing Arts Center

The Board of Directors of the Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC) announced the appointment of Khady Kamara as the organization’s first Executive Director. Kamara comes to the PAC from New York’s Second Stage Theater, following an extensive national search. As Executive Director, Kamara will work closely with the PAC’s Artistic Director Bill Rauch and will oversee all administrative and operating aspects of the PAC, which opens in 2023.
Kamara will joined the PAC in a part-time capacity  and will be fully on board starting in early 2023.
“When the PAC opens next year, it will be a spectacular addition to Lower Manhattan and New York City’s cultural life – and, in Khady Kamara, we have found a terrific Executive Director,” said Michael R. Bloomberg, Chair of the Board of Directors. “Khady has a wealth of experience in the performing arts and executive leadership, and together with the PAC’s Board of Directors and our Artistic Director Bill Rauch, I welcome her to the job as we prepare for the exciting months and years ahead.”

We are looking to fill TWO Assistant Professor, tenure-track positions in Dance.  A summary of the positions and a link to the full descriptions can be found below.  Please circulate this to whomever you know that might be interested. 

First considerations will go to applications submitted by November 15, 2022.  The start date is August 2023.

Position 1: The successful candidate will teach studio practice/technique courses and dance theory courses related to their creative work/research.  We welcome candidates from a broad spectrum of dance practices.  Desirable teaching interests include dance composition/choreography and related studies, site-performance dance studies, writing and critical analysis in the arts, dance aesthetics and philosophy, and community-based/socially engaged dance practices. The Dance Program seeks a candidate with strong organizational and leadership skills, combined with a keen ability to foster collegiality and collaborative initiatives both within our dance program and the city.

The Artistic Programs Manager is a proactive, ambitious, creative, organized, and justice driven professional whose primary responsibility is to manage and provide meaningful artistic leadership support to MOVE|NYC|’s artistic, mentorship, and professional development programs, in addition to programmatic administration/communications. 

The successful candidate has a professional dance background, at minimum 1-2 years of prior professional experience in a similar role and duties, evident passion for the arts and arts education, social and racial justice, and youth development and empowerment, and an alignment with MOVE|NYC|’s mission.

    I am a performer, historian, consultant and dance writer.
