Dance/NYC announces the launch of #ArtistsAreNecessaryWorkers, a new online and social media campaign dedicated to the acknowledgement, representation and integration of dance and arts workers into the decision-making processes that will envision the future for New York City post-pandemic.

Dance/NYC is in conversation with the Office of the Mayor, City of New York, to advocate for a dance representative on the City's Arts, Culture, and Tourism Sector Advisory Council, as well as the city's marketing and partnership organization, NYC & Company, to request dance field representation on The Coalition for NYC Hospitality & Tourism Recovery.

"As advocates for the dance field and the many diverse folks represented therein, Dance/NYC demands a place for our constituency in the conversations about the future of our community, and the arts as a whole as plans for re-emergence from the effects of COVID-19 are put into place," said Alejandra Duque Cifuentes, executive director of Dance/NYC. "We are working to effect meetings to ensure that our voices are heard in the planning process. To that end, we are in conversations with the Office of the Mayor, as well as our vast array of constituents, to act as thought leaders in the field. Our video shares the remarkable cross-section of our population, and our new Facebook Live Series will help to shed light on the issues facing not just dancers and dance-makers, but artists as a whole."

This project is open to all artists and creatives. Watch #QuarantineShorts contributions via Facebook or Instagram. Respond to a prompt or create your own. Tag your creation #QuarantineShorts #CreateConnectKL #KineticLight and we will share!

VIRTUALLY BAAD!’s Dance Compilation Concert
Boogie Down Dance Series 2020 – BAAD!
CALL FOR ARTISTS!Virtually BAAD!’s Dance Compilation Concert
Saturday, May 23, 2020 | 8PM

BAAD! The Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance is seeking choreographers inspired to VIRTUALLY present their dance work for a shared dance concert. This concert will present 8 choreographers' 5 to 7 minutes of work for Virtually BAAD! on ZOOM.
Your performance can be influenced by the space you are quarantined in and/or what’s been keeping your Boogie Down shoes moving & grooving during these times. Strongly encouraged that you utilize your functioning devices with camera/microphone. Thinking outside of the box is always encouraged.

Let us know which track(s) you will be using and what you envision on presenting. Our goal is to program the evening so that each performance is right after the other with continuous music playing like a gapless album, experienced virtually.
The artist fee is $125 per choreographer. Interested? Email Programming Associate, Gerard Minaya, at gerard@baadbronx.org, please also Cc Deputy Director, Marcus Gualberto, at marcus@baadbronx.org by Friday, May 15.

IABD Call For Choreographers, Schools & Studios

5/7/2020

Picture
FROM THE FOLKS AT IABD:

January 10, 1995, Joan Myers Brown, Founder/Executive Artistic Director of PHILADANCO! published the Directory of Choreographers for Black Dance Companies. At the time, this one-of-a-kind publication was in response to the frequent question for information about “Black choreographers who work with Black dancers or predominantly Black dance companies." In the same spirit of this publication, IABD wants to hear from you and know who you are.

As the Association continues to grow and expand, part of IABD's vision is to bring visibility to its community. We can't think of a better way to maintain this awareness than to begin the enhancement of our existing dance directory. Help us to shift the narrative about the lack of Black choreographers, dance schools and studios. We know you exist.

WE ARE SEEKING BLACK CHOREOGRAPHERS AND BLACK DANCE SCHOOLS/ STUDIOS FOR INCLUSION IN OUR DIRECTORY. Don't worry this is only the beginning, we will be conducting calls in other areas as well.
