Choreographer and video artist, Moss’ Your marks and surface will premiere at Danspace Project.  Made in collaboration with dancer Sawami Fukuoka, composer Stephen Vitiello, and painter Angela Dufresne, Moss invites the audience to “join in something worn, physical, and reflective. Something incomplete and unabled, perhaps unsafe, but still sweet: a warm lonesome concoction mulled by more than the pandemic’s long embrace,” notes the release.  Find out more here

Lee, artistic director of Puri Arts brings Chilseong Saenamgut (Duringut): Ritual for Sickness, "a performance ritual inspired by the sacred rituals originating in the artist’s hometown of Jeju Island, Korea," notes the release.  Find out more here

Tap dancer / bandleader Lerman’s Love Movement will share the evening titled Reimagining Max Roach’s Groundbreaking 1960 Album, We Insist! Choreographers Ayodele Casel and Rosy Simas Win Doris Duke Artist Awards, Newly Increased to $550K Each, at Tenth Anniversary Celebration

At Celebration of Doris Duke Artist Awards Tenth Anniversary and First-Ever Awards Show, These Two Dance Artists, Along With Four Artists in Jazz and Theater, Receive the Nation’s Largest Award for Individual Performing Artists, Totaling $3.3 Million in Unrestricted Funding.

At the tenth anniversary celebration and first-ever awards ceremony for the Doris Duke Artist Awards, the Doris Duke Foundation announced the newest class of Doris Duke Artists and the doubling of the prize. From yesterday forward, each new recipient is receiving an award of $550,000, which the foundation revealed it is upping from the prize’s previous sum of $275,000, in recognition of their transformative creative potential and ongoing impact on the fields of contemporary dance, jazz and theater.

Choreographers and performers Ayodele Casel and Rosy Simas received the award for their seismic contributions to the field of contemporary dance.

Hartwig Art Foundation Fellowships at Performa

Performa and the Hartwig Art Foundation have announced two new fellowships for next-generation curators, producers and archivists.

The Hartwig Art Foundation Curatorial Fellow will work directly with Performa’s curatorial and production teams, Performa commission artists and international partners and will engage in extensive historical research of performance of the 20th and 21st centuries by artists from around the globe.

The Hartwig Art Foundation Archives Fellow will collaborate with the Performa team and international partners to activate and expand the Performa Archive comprising thousands of hours of original edited and unedited video, sound recordings, photographs, physical and digital ephemera, as well as drawings, writings, interviews and correspondence with Performa Commission artists.

Both will involve fellows in seminars with curators and leaders across cultural fields, visits to museums and performing arts organizations, and research into current practices around the presentation, collecting and conservation of performance.

    I am a performer, historian, consultant and dance writer.
