A TRISK resident research artist, Greene will weave her core research practices of duration, somatics, raving, and ancestral channeling, in this sharing of ENUF. "Greene is a bi-racial Black woman who cherishes and channels her Caribbean heritage and Queerness into an art-based existence. Greene creates conceptual, body-based art rooted in her belief that dance is not something to be learned, but an innate entity that we all have access to and are perpetually engaging with. Weaving her core research practices of duration, somatics, raving, and ancestral channeling, her work aims to reflect nature, human and otherwise, as a way of highlighting humanity and the stark sameness and differences and sameness in the differences within all of us," according to the release. Find out more here. ​

Various Venus

For its third edition, the festival honors Arab American Heritage Month, which coincides with Ramadan and Eid this year for the third year in a row. Slated on the programs are works by Malikat Al Dabke, the only all-female Dabke troupe from Washington, DC, who will perform collective dance choreographies ranging from Palestinian to Iraqi dance styles and music; Angie Assal, who will host the evening and present a series of classical raqs-sharqi dance solos, will share a revival of dance heritage from Egypt, Lebanon and the Levant, accompanied by virtuoso musician Ameer Armaly and much more.  Find out more here

ALL ARTS’ 2024 Past, Present, Future Dance Film Festival will premiere films by Ayodele Casel, Raja Feather Kelly and Katy Pyle. As part of Harlem Stages’ 40th anniversary celebration, the signature series, E-Moves, returns with works by Jones/Zane Company and George.  And as part of the centennial celebration of the late jazz drummer and composer Max Roach, Jones performs Degga (1995), created through a legendary collaboration between Jones, Roach, and Toni Morrison.  Find out more here

Antinozzi will present The Suite which "revises typical structures and characters of romantic, plot-de-emphasized ballets. Elastically composed, the work practices a casual technique integrating form, pantomime gesture, and mellow bravura," according to the release. Find out more here

For artistic director, Robert Garland’s inaugural season, Dance Theatre of Harlem will offer a collection of classic and contemporary works in three performances. The Apollo Stages at The Victoria Theater

McIntyre who revives the spirit of her celebrated company Sounds in Motion as part of The Apollo’s New Works initiative, with In the Same Tongue (2023), bringing together her movement and language-based work featuring dancers and musicians who explore how dance and music “speak” to each other. Same Tongue explores the 1920s Harlem salons, and the Black Arts Movement of the 60’s & 70’s with dancers, writers, musicians, students, photographers, thinkers and the who’s who of Black culture.  Find out more here

Gill will present Nail Biter, "moving the viewer through portals of myth, memoir, psychodrama, and horror. Movement Research is seeking a Programs & Events Associate to support the organization in accomplishing its mission of supporting and engaging a diverse community of dance artists, practitioners and program participants.
 
Job Description:
The Programs & Events Associate supports the programming of a
45-year-old artist services nonprofit dedicated to supporting experimental dance artists. Programs & Events Associate reports to the Programs & Events Manager and Associate Director. 
The position supports Movement Research’s public programs and events, artist residencies and exchanges through event and activities planning, implementation of logistics, technical support for onsite and virtual events, and administration of event documentation. 

The position interacts with Movement Research’s artist community on a daily basis and provides support to artists participating in these activities.

The Strokes of Genius Fellowship (Strokes of Genius) is an open application program that provides artists, curators, journalists, and scholars with funding to develop new creative projects. Awarding six (6) fellowships annually with a $2,500 grant, feedback support from The Black Genius Foundation Staff and mentorship support from The Black Genius Brain Trust, Strokes of Genius fulfills our commitment to invest in the creativity and cultural production of Black artists and arts professionals and our dedication to nurturing the creative health of our communities.

STROKES OF GENIUS SUPPORTED PROJECTS

The Strokes of Genius Fellowship can be used to support the following types of projects:
  • The composing or recording of new music
  • The creation of a new choreographic, theatrical, or multidisciplinary work
  • The production of a video, film, televisual, digital or multimedia project
  • A visual arts project
  • A creative writing project
  • The research, development and/or execution of a curatorial project or presentation
  • The research or writing of an article, paper, or book for publication

Feather Kelly's The Absolute Future (or Death, Loneliness, and The Absolute Future of the Multiverse, or How to Cover the Sun with Mud), is a devised danced-theatre performance about a group of friends who attempt to watch The Great American Eclipse (April 8, 2024) and miss it.  Created by Kelly with original composition by Christoph Mateka, the shows happen at NYU Skirball.     I am a performer, historian, consultant and dance writer.
