For its third edition, the festival honors Arab American Heritage Month, which coincides with Ramadan and Eid this year for the third year in a row. The NYAF is programming multiple live in-person events in partnership with institutions across NYC, the USA, and internationally through satellite events. Slated on the programs are works by Malikat Al Dabke, the only all-female Dabke troupe from Washington, DC, who will perform collective dance choreographies ranging from Palestinian to Iraqi dance styles and music; Angie Assal, who will host the evening and present a series of classical raqs-sharqi dance solos, will share a revival of dance heritage from Egypt, Lebanon and the Levant, accompanied by virtuoso musician Ameer Armaly and much more. The Apollo Stages at The Victoria Theater

McIntyre who revives the spirit of her celebrated company Sounds in Motion as part of The Apollo’s New Works initiative, with In the Same Tongue (2023), bringing together her movement and language-based work featuring dancers and musicians who explore how dance and music “speak” to each other. Same Tongue explores the 1920s Harlem salons, and the Black Arts Movement of the 60’s & 70’s with dancers, writers, musicians, students, photographers, thinkers and the who’s who of Black culture.
