Benjamin Akio Kimitch
The Shed
August 4-6

In Tiger Hands, Kimitch "...dreams beyond the worn-out mantra of East-meets-West. Inspired by his formative training in Chinese dance and intimate encounters with Peking opera, Kimitch’s vision for his first production in five years is one of world making. With this performance, Kimitch continues a body of dance works that honor grief for his late mother, a third-generation sansei Japanese American, amateur taiko drummer, and folk dancer. “Tiger hands,” a Peking opera posture conventionally reserved for male characters, represents for Kimitch both a later-life reconnection to his formative non-Western dance training and cues for how he might enliven the early experimental energy that birthed this artform. Kimitch invites a diverse group of creative collaborators in his cosmic, sunrise-colored search for authentic personal expression, using elements of Peking opera as a transformative source of beauty and strength."  Find out more here

What began as open movement sessions between friends during the pandemic has since blossomed into our newest annual offering. Each day, we'll have two floorwork technique sessions (10am - 1pm & 2pm - 5pm), lead by either myself or one of the company dancers.

Kizuna Dance continues its passion for making dance education and training more financially accessible to artists. I hope this might provide an opportunity for some of those within your communities to meet, train in contemporary floorwork, and connect with other artists without worrying about finances. The program is open to any pre-professional and professional dancers, and they can register for  and attend up to two of the offered time slots entirely for free!

I’ll attach the flyer below, and more sign up info can be found on our website at cameronmckinneydance.com/intensive.

The sign up form opens up on our website this Friday, July 08 at 12pm! Sign up is first come, first served. I hope you’ll share with your folks!

PictureMichelle Preston
FROM THE FOLKS AT Limón:

Following a national search, the José Limón Dance Foundation has appointed Michelle Preston as incoming Executive Director.

"I am thrilled to be chosen to lead the José Limón Dance Foundation alongside Artistic Director Dante Puleio and steward the legacy of one of the most influential dancers and choreographers in the history of American modern dance,” Preston remarked. “There is no denying that there are intense field-wide challenges in this moment, but there are also boundless opportunities to address inequity, better care for artists, and build more resilient organizations that serve a broader spectrum of audiences and communities. I am eager to work alongside the dedicated staff, board, and artists of the Limón Foundation to envision an expansive future for both the Company and the Institute, which builds upon the organization's strengths and successes over the past 75 years.”
Since 2014, Preston has served as the Executive Director of SITI Company, an ensemble theater company based in New York City. While at SITI, Preston led a multi-year planning process to celebrate and preserve the legacy of the ensemble. Her prior experience in New York City also includes work with dance organizations Urban Bush Women, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, and the School of American Ballet.
