ATTENTION New York City & Tri-State Area Choreographers!

The Joffrey Concert Group and the Joffrey Ballet Center present, Creative Movers Choreographic Initiative 2025.

The Creative Movers Choreographic Initiative is a search for the dance makers of the future. The initiative provides innovative and emerging dancemakers the opportunity to develop their creative voices. Two New York and Tristate-area choreographers will be awarded the creative time and space to produce a new work between 12-17 minutes for the 20-member Joffrey Concert Group. 

Choreographers in contemporary, modern, or contemporary ballet styles, between the ages of 19-35 are encouraged to apply. Recipients will receive a $2500 stipend for a 40-hour rehearsal process, over four weeks. Commissioned works will be fully produced and presented for a New York City Theater during the “In My Art” performance on February 14, 15, and 16 2025.

Deadline to apply is July 12, 2024. Choreographers will be notified by July 31, 2024.

​The MR ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE (AIR) program was  founded in 1989 in direct response to the needs of early career dance artists. The MR AIR Residency provides early career generative dance artists with two years of support through residency fees, free rehearsal space, professional development, national and international exchange opportunities, and other formats for investigative discourse to NYC-based early artists to support their creative process in a supported and constructive environment.  Find out more here

Contemporary artist, choreographer, and performer nora chipaumire  comes to Harlem Stage as part of E-Moves with the New York premiere of ShebeenDUB, transforming "...the historic Harlem Stage Gatehouse into a sonic and visual statement of radical black indictment of Empire. Featuring the monumental afternow sound installation, including the soundshitsystem, designed by Ari Marcopoulos and Kara Walker and constructed by Matt Jackson Studio, the evening unfolds in three parts.
Audiences are first invited to experience Nehanda, a radio opera by chimpaumire which relays the story of Nehanda, following the opera, three dancers and dub DJ perform shebeenDUB within the afternow installation, celebrating dub —  a musical style that emerged in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s.  To close the night, audiences are invited to participate in a dance party featuring music by a dub DJ," according to the release.  Find out more here
