Audition for "Major!" by Choreographer/Director Ogemdi Ude

From the choreographer/Ogemdi Ude:

I am seeking Black femme-identifying performers (inclusive of cisgender, transgender, non-binary, agender, and genderqueer identities) for my new work “Major”, premiering at New York Live Arts in Fall 2025 and touring in 2026/2027. Major is a dance theater project engaging the history and physicality of Southern majorette dance as a means of physically investigating Black femme memory, sexuality, and sensuality.

AUDITION: Catherine Turocy and The New York Baroque Dance Company ~ 8/7

Looking for virtuosic dance artists living in the NYC metropolitan area to perform for engagements with NYBDC including a film, performances and demonstrations. Applicants should have training in the genres of Ballet and Modern. Experience in historical dance techniques and acting would be a plus.

Date: August 7th, 2024.

Video Submission Deadline: This Audition is INVITATION ONLY. Applicants should submit a video for review to [email protected] by July 7th, 2024. Video may be of you in studio or performance (must be solo or easily identified), 2-3 minutes of footage. Invited candidates will be notified with audition location and times.

Expectations for dance artists: Learning and retaining the choreography and aesthetic of the movement. Being prepared to dance assigned roles and the ability to maintain physical capacity to dance and perform.

Salary/Wage: Ranges from $20 to $25/hour for rehearsals or $750 to $1000 for weekly engagements. Payment range is based on experience. Dancers are hired on a per project basis as we have a variety of subjects in our repertoire ranging from historical ballroom to stage dancing requiring acting technique.

Must be able to work in the U.S.

Known for our electrifying work and dynamic community dances, K+C will enliven Vail International Dance Festival's Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater with Rhapsody, developed by and in community, featuring dancers and non-dancers, young and old alike.

No previous dance experience required -- just enthusiasm and energy. Find new ways of moving, dance alongside your neighbors, have the opportunity to perform, and have fun!

Rhapsody will harness the unique spirit and talents of its diverse cast of performers to create a moving outdoor celebration of art-making, humanity, and shared space.

The Martha Graham Dance Company is seeking professional dancers to perform the traditional male roles of the Graham classics as well as new works by today’s choreographers.

Applicants must have a strong command of current concert dance styles, ballet, and Graham Technique. Selected dancers will be offered between 8 and 29 weeks of work for the Company’s 2024-2025 Season.

Start date is June 17, 2024. New York Live Arts offers Company members an annual wage starting at $45,000 plus health benefits over 52 weeks with approximately 30-35 scheduled working weeks annually. The position requires a minimum two-year commitment, through June 2026.

Ballet Hispánico is seeking professional dancers to join the Company for the 2024-2025 Season, beginning August 2024. As part of the Company, dancers perform on New York City's greatest stages, tour nationwide and internationally, and are an integral part of community engagement programs.

Invitation-only auditions will take place on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 167 W. 89th Street, NYC.

PERIDANCE ENSEMBLE AUDITION: MAY 18

Peridance Ensemble is a new performance-based program for dancers between the ages of 17 and 23, which is designed to reflect the experience of being in a professional company. The program is structured to cultivate their artistry through technical training, collaborative rehearsal process, and performance.

The ensemble serves as a launchpad for those who aspire to have a professional career in dance. Students are given opportunities to perform throughout the tri-state area, work closely with world-renowned choreographers, develop their artistic voice through choreographic opportunities, and become a part of the larger global dance community in New York City.

This program runs from September 2024 - May 2025
