Opening The Yard’s winter series, choreographer and performer Stefanie Batten Bland with music by Leah Crosby will present Embarked, a”…site-specific work that combines the influences of sand, wind, water, time, and history, Stefanie Batten Bland begins her research into the physical and emotional residue created from the fabrication and destruction of landmarks, whether forced or due to decay. When she first visited Martha’s Vineyard, Batten Bland was drawn to the African American Heritage Trail. Embarked is the first of several studies in progress to celebrate these sacred spaces on the island that affirm culture and define community,” according to the release.  This is a free event!  Find out more here
 
Antonio Ramos and The Gangbangers

Ramos and The Gangbangers, will present ALMODOVAR DYSTOPIA, a “…humorous celebration of queer culture, and part an outrageous political statement against the body-negative and repressed nature of the world we live in,” notes the release. Find out more here 
 
Invocation Proclamation Manifesto – Various Artists

In the intimate ground floor performance space, the new Gibney Dance series of “Invocation Proclamation Manifesto” a mixed bill programs featuring short works from choreographers and performance-makers “…wrestling with the urgency of being a body at risk in 45’s America,” according to the release, continues with Kenya (Robinson), Alexandra Tatarsky & Eli Tamondong (9/28 – 30); and Angie Pittman, Kristopher K.Q. Pourzal & Ashley R.T. Yergens (10/5 – 7).  This series also features performances in a fully installed environment by visual artist and designer Diego Montoya.  Find out more here

Opening the NYLA season, Keersmaeker and her company Rosas brings A Love Supreme, a collaboration with Salva Sanchis an ode of sorts to John Coltrane’s seminal album of the same name.  Find out more here 
 
John Heginbotham and Maira Kalman

Heginbotham choreographs and directs, The Principles of Uncertainty with Dance Heiginbotham, collaborating with author and illustrator Kalman bringing  “…Kalman’s intimate, detailed work to life in a series of vignettes that illustrate a journey through an ever-changing world,” notes the release.  Find out more here 
 
Renegade Performance Group
Danspace Project

Artistic director and choreographer André M. Zachery of Renegade Performance Group will premiere Untamed Space, “…an interdisciplinary performance about ‘marooning’ in the 21st Century,” notes the release. A half hour long pre-show discussions will take place each night. Find out more here

As part Crossing the Line Festival 2017, the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) and La Mama join to present the New York Premiere of Sciarroni’s UNTITLED_I will be there when you die a “…visceral, visual, high-endurance work reimagines the physical variations and repetitive patterns of juggling as a unique language,” according to the release. The International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD) and Lula Washington Dance Theatre (LWDT) announce three performance dance presentations and three late night dance showcases, at the heart of the conference and festival. PERFORMERS APPLICATION
This application is for a dance performance opportunity at the 30th Annual International Conference and Festival of Blacks in Dance in Los Angeles. Please submit an application for performance opportunities at the Marsee Auditorium and Sheraton Hotel. Dance artists and companies as well as ensembles affiliated with studios, high schools, colleges, universities, or conservatories are encouraged to apply. IABD Members must hold two years membership, for performance opportunities at the Marsee Auditorium and Gospel Brunch. Late night showcase opportunities are open to all. Submission of your application does not guarantee a performance opportunity.
VOLUNTEER!
The 30th Annual International Conference and Festival of Blacks in Dance takes place with the support of hundreds of volunteers who contribute their time to help make our events successful. Volunteers assist with many aspects of the conference and festival, from helping behind the scenes to serving as a liaison to our international and VIP guests.
We are currently seeking volunteers who love Dance, or who simply enjoy lending a hand, for our 2018 events in Los Angeles! Volunteer shifts are available between the dates of January 22 - 28, 2018. Reliable and dedicated individuals who are interested in gaining valuable hands-on experience, knowledge and insight into the arts community, and willing to give of their time and expertise are welcome!
Volunteer’s tasks include but are not limited to: registration, ticket takers, ushers, production and guest liaisons. Sign up to volunteer!

Calling all vendors! Looking to have your business or product line front and center for the largest cultural gathering of Black dance artists in the world and gain exclusive access to over 500 daily attendees? You're in luck! Vendor applications for the 30th Annual International Conference and Festival of Blacks in Dance are now being accepted.
PROPOSALS APPLICATION FORM
Submissions to be considered in the following categories: Digital Presentation/ Film, Individual Paper, Lecture, Lecture-Demonstration, Mixed-Media, Movement Workshop, Panel, Roundtable Discussion, and Other. Please submit presentations in the related to the conference and festival theme, HONORING LEGACIES: PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE.
DANCE INSTRUCTORS APPLICATION FORM
The Annual International Conference and Festival of Blacks in Dance is seeking qualified dance instructors who are interested in teaching at the Denver, CO conference in January 2018. Please include your Resume/CV, a head shot and a brief narrative/bio describing your years of experience. All instructors must have at least 3 - 5 years of teaching experience.
