New Jersey Dance Theatre Ensemble (NJDTE) in Nancy Turano’s - The Nutcracker

In a momentous gathering, NJDTG/NJDTE alumni, dancers and friends join Andra and Ernesta Corvino, NJDTG founding ballet mistresses and daughters of Founding Artistic Director Alfredo Corvino, to celebrate the Ensemble’s 45th anniversary season and the Corvino legacy at a gala reception on Sunday, December 14 at Reeves-Reed Arboretum in Summit, NJ. Guests of honor include NJDTE Artistic Director Nancy Turano, who celebrates her 20th anniversary, plus alumna, guest artist and mentor, Rosemary Sabovick-Bleich, a former prima ballerina with New Jersey Ballet. The event follows the 2 pm performance of NJDTE’s acclaimed The Nutcracker, choreographed by Turano.  Find out more here

New York City Ballet - George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker™

New York City Ballet’s (NYCB) acclaimed production of Balanchine’s masterpiece, which premiered on February 2, 1954, helped to establish The Nutcracker around the country. Find our more here

Set in 1895, The Yorkville Nutcracker takes the audience on a tour of Olde New York's landmarks, Gracie Mansion, the New York Botanical Garden, and skating in Central Park.  Find out more here

Decadancetheatre – Featuring Kurtis Blow
NJPAC & United Palace

Director and choreographer Jennifer Weber’s and her Brooklyn-based, all-female hip-hop company brings The Hip Hop Nutcracker to Newark’s NJPAC and Manhattan’s United Palace.  The production is set to Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker with hip hop interludes remixed and re-imagined by DJ Boo and violinist Filip Pogády. Charles Rice-González’s - Los Nutcrackers: A Christmas Carajo
The Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance (BAAD!)

Rice-González’s Los Nutcrackers… “…a play that interweaves two holiday classics, The Nutcracker and A Christmas Carol, and creates a queer, Latino play about a gay couple who go on a psychedelic trip through their lives one Christmas Eve, returns for the second year.  Find out more here

Gelsey Kirkland Ballet’s - The Nutcracker
Schimmel Center at Pace University

This return engagement features original choreography by Co-Artistic Director Michael Chernov and assisted by Kirkland and Alexandra Lawler and showcases the company of dancers from all over the world, including Brazil, Israel, and Japan.  Also featured is the 70-member ensemble comprised of graduates and trainees of the Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet. Find out more here

The special re-fashioning of the holiday favorite—The Nutcracker– The Apollo Theater’s Ellington at Christmas, a salute to Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker Suite features Priscilla Baskerville, Jason Samuels Smith, Lizz Wright, students of Dance Theatre of Harlem, the Arts High School Advanced Choir of Newark and the David Berger Jazz Orchestra.  Find out more here

New York Theatre Ballet – Keith Michael’s The Nutcracker

This holiday ballet, danced to Tchaikovsky's beloved score, is set in Art Nouveau style circa 1907 with innovative choreography by long-time NYTB choreographer, Keith Michael; set design by Gillian Bradshaw-Smith; and costumes by Resident Costume Designer of the Metropolitan Opera, Sylvia Nolan.  Find out more here

    I am a performer, historian, consultant and dance writer. I am a Empire State College's online program Center for Distance Learning.  I am also a former faculty member at The Ailey School and the Alvin Ailey/Fordham University dance major program, Hunter College, Sarah Lawrence College (Guest), Kean University and The Joffrey Ballet School's Jazz and Contemporary Trainee Program.  I write on dance for The Amsterdam News, Dance Magazine and various publications.  Click below to read more about me at my home page - "About Me."
