We are saddened by the death of Murray Louis, 89, renowned dancer and choreographer, who died on Monday at his home in Manhattan. Together with his partner Alwin Nikolais, who headed the dance program at our Abrons Arts Center for many years, Murray had a transformational influence on American modern dance and performance. We saw him most recently at the Abrons in June 2015 for Nik: A Tribute to the Legacy of Alwin Nikolais, presented by the Abrons and the Nikolais/Louis Foundation.
