GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Manages operations, finance, human resources, licensing, artistic planning, and touring for a $6.5M contemporary dance institution; Negotiates and manages dancer and crew contracts, domestic and international touring engagements, and choreographic licenses for an 18-member professional company and a 6-member training company; Develops and oversees institutional budgets and financial operations, including treasury management and payroll; Manages the Human Resources function/processes for the institution and oversees facilities.
Responsibilities:
Performances
Works with agent to develop major residencies for both performing ensembles
Manages local performance collaborations including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Art Institute of Chicago
Primary liaison between Hubbard Street and the Harris Theater for Music and Dance
Leads long-range planning for performance, rehearsal and touring schedules for both ensembles
Artists and Repertoire
In coordination with Artistic Director, manages repertoire acquisitions and licenses to meet long-range artistic goals
Oversees licensing and contracts with choreographers and/or their managers
Negotiates agreements and compensation with Hubbard Street and HS2 dancers
Coordinates visas for foreign artists, including dancers, choreographers, designers and assistants
Finance and Budget
Works with Executive Director to develop institutional strategic plan, aligning financial resources to achieve strategic goals while ensuring strong fiscal management
Manages the long-term and annual budgeting process for the institution and oversees quarterly re-forecast
In coordination with the Artistic Director, Company Manager and Director of Production, develops and manages artistic and production budgets for performances and repertoire
Works with External Affairs to maximize institutional revenue
Administration
Manages Human Resources function for the institution, including hiring, benefits, evaluation, organizational structure and compliance
Primary Hubbard Street liaison to IATSE, negotiating collective bargaining agreement and ongoing relationship
Supervises Senior Manager of Finance, Company Manager, and Manager of Artistic Operations
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree required, master's degree preferred. Candidates must have worked in the field of arts administration for a minimum of five years, preferably in dance. Candidates must be organized, diplomatic, and self-directed. The General Manager must have excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrate a proven ability to interact with a variety of internal and external constituents. Computer literacy, supervisory experience and budget management skills are essential.
