An exceptional new artist residency—serving emerging and established dancers, theater makers, playwrights, and other artists—today announced its launch and its first group of artists. There are limited residencies that offer dancers, and even theater makers, the facilities that are essential for their work. Loghaven Artist Residency is designed to serve this need. The residency is the result of years meticulous planning, research, and input from performers and cultural leaders. It combines: professionally designed, purpose-built studios and facilities; modernized historic log cabins for artist housing; live/work spaces for collaborative artist groups; robust support during and after the residency, including a competitive microgrant program for Loghaven Fellows’ future work. Loghaven Artist Residency is on 90 acres of woodlands minutes from downtown Knoxville, Tennessee.
Among those participating in the 2020-2021 residencies are: dancer, choreographer, and performance artist Ann Carlson; artist, scholar, and leading theatrical set designer Sebastián Escalona; collaborative artists Rudy Gerson and Jonathan González; and interdisciplinary artist NIC Kay. On June 1, 2020, Loghaven will begin an open call for applications, accepting submissions from artists across the U.S. and the world.
