BAX | Brooklyn Arts Exchange is proud to announce
BAX Board of Directors lead initiative towards racial equity
BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange is excited to announce a Board of Directors led initiative to establish a deeper knowledge and participation towards racial equity at BAX and form a strong partnership with the Boards of two other Brooklyn cultural organizations,Ifetayo Cultural Arts Academy and Arts East New York. Board members from these three organizations will come together led by the principles of Art/Work Practice to come to a better understanding of racism and racial equity and how to provide meaningful support and guidance to staff and join with their greater communities. At BAX, white Board members will also participate with Breaking White Silence to effectively prepare and grow a deeper understanding of the roles for white people in undoing racism.
This initiative follows several years of staff efforts, as individuals and groups, examining and making changes to policy and programs. BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange, an organization with a core commitment to social justice, welcomes students, families, faculty and artists. In keeping with BAX's mission to "encourage artistic risk taking and stimulate dialogue among diverse constituencies" we intentionally and purposefully support the voices of under-represented individuals and groups of all origins, ages, abilities, races, sexual orientations, and genders including - trans identified individuals, or those with varied immigration statuses. All our constituents join an organization whose staff and Board is actively engaged in challenging the manifestations of whiteness, ability and privilege as part of our ongoing anti-racist efforts and our other anti-oppression, pro-inclusion work.
