BABA CHUCK DAVIS
January 1, 1937 - May 14, 2017
FROM MAMA DORIS GREEN:
Dear members of the Council of Elders of Dance Africa:
It is with deep sadness and heartfelt condolences that we relay this message to you. On this Sunday morning heaven opened up and claimed the life of Baba Chuck (Charles) Davis. Baba Chuck was the artistic director of Dance Africa which he created and led for forty years.
Throughout the course of forty years people have celebrated Dance Africa at the Brooklyn Academy of Music enjoying the music and dances of countries throughout the continent of Africa and the Diaspora. People were able to come to the Brooklyn Academy of Music to enjoy the show as well as visit the open-air market where they enjoyed the food, clothing, books, photos and instruments from various places in Africa. It was always a fun filled Memorial Day weekend to be a part of this activity.
We pray for the safe passage of Chuck Davis into the land of the Ancestors where he can associate with others who have passed on.
The name of Baba Chuck Davis will be eternally engraved with Dance Africa and remain in our hearts forever.
Peace,
Mama Doris Green
