NOTICE OF FACULTY VACANCY
Assistant/Associate Professor Appointment: Dance
 
POSITION:    Full time tenure track appointment - Dance
RANK/SALARY:  Assistant/Associate Professor appointment in Dance.  Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Department of Dance seeks a tenure-track faculty member with a rich artistic, scholarly, and performance practice grounded in Africanist philosophical and cultural aesthetics, including neo-traditional and/or contemporary African diasporic forms. Teaching will include undergraduate and graduate studio courses and theory seminars and integrated theory/practice seminars. Areas of expertise could include: Black Performance and Theory, African Diaspora Dance in the Caribbean, Popular Diasporic Dance Forms, Contemporary African Dance, The Body Politic, The Umfundalai Technique, and Hip-Hop Dance Practices. Other areas of expertise within African Diaspora Dance will be considered.QUALIFICATIONS:  MFA or PhD in Dance or a related discipline. Ability to inspire students with diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated evidence of successful university teaching in various levels of African, African American, and/or African diaspora dance forms, in choreography and performance, and in two theoretical areas, such as: black aesthetics, dance history, dance anthropology, critical pedagogy, critical race theory, cultural studies, community studies, environmental dance.


Applicants are expected to be outstanding teachers, maintain a dynamic research agenda and record of publication, and engage in appropriate service to the College, the University, and the profession. In keeping with Temple University’s internationalization mission, we are looking for a colleague who can further the international reach of the Dance Department in the form of existing or potential relationships.

The Boyer College of Music and Dance offers music and dance undergraduate and graduate degree programs in composition, conducting, dance, jazz, keyboard, music education, music history, music theory, and music therapy, music technology, performance, and voice and opera. Located on Temple's main campus, the Boyer College is situated in close proximity to the City’s historic cultural institutions, including the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Opera Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Ballet, Philadanco, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Along with the School of Theater, Film and Media Arts, Boyer is part of the Center for the Performing and Cinematic Arts, which enrolls over 1,700 students.
