The French Institute Alliance Française’s (FIAF) “Crossing Line Festival” and LaMama premieres Look Who’s Coming to Dinner inspired by the 1967 Stanley Kramer film in which a black fiancé meets his white soon-to-be wife’s family, the work pays tribute to those who paved the way toward acceptance in love and life.  Set around a dinner table, seven dance theater artists explore questions of who we choose to break bread with, and whether long-held biases still shock.  The work is set to new composition by Paul Damien Hogan. Find out more here 

Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker
NYLA
October 1-5

Keersmaeker will be at NYLA for two weeks with with two early Fase (September 24-28) and Rosas danst Rosas (October 1-5).  Premiering in 1982, Fase, to the Music of Steve Reich was Keersmaeker’s first choreographic work, and Rosas danst Rosas is “…considered a benchmark in postmodern dance history,” notes the release.  Find out more here

Fall for Dance Festival
New York City Center
October 1–13

The annual two-week festival which brings dance to many for just $15, returns for year 16 with five diverse programs including performances by Misty Copeland, Kim Brandstrup for NYCB principal dancers Sara Mearns and Taylor Stanley, Sonya Tayeh with live music by Moses Sumney, Alicia Graf Mack, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, English National Ballet (United Kingdom), MADBOOTS DANCE, Malevo (Argentina), The Mariinsky Ballet (Russia), Skånes Dansteater (Sweden), Vuyani Dance Theatre (South Africa), and more. Antonio Ramos and the Gang Bangers
The Chocolate Factory

The Chocolate Factory Theater and Abrons Arts Center come together to present the premiere of Ramos’ El pueblo de los Olvidados, Parte II (The Village of the Forgotten), “…a dance-theater performance in the genre of science-fiction, prompted by Ramos’s research about Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria,” according to the release.  Find out more here  

American Dance Guild (ADG) Festival
Aliley Citigroup Theater

ADG Festival will honor dance educator and advocate Jody Gottfried Arnhold, dancer/choreographer/teacher/writer Gus Solomons jr, and Abdel R. Salaam, co-founder and director of Forces of Nature Dance Theater, with a “Lifetime Achievement Award.” Find out more here 
 
Soaking Wet – Keely Garfield & Beyond the Bang Group
West End Theater

After 15 years, curator David Parker and producer Jeffrey Kazin announce the grand finale of the "Soaking WET" dance series with one-hour performances by Keely Garfield Dance (Program A), and Beyond the Bang Group (Program B).  Find out more here

Poe and Beacham brings Let ‘Im Move You: This Is A Success And A Study, a series of performance and installation works, and a continuation of jumatatu and Donte’s work within and in response to J-Sette’s movement vocabulary and Black queer performance aesthetics. This performance falls under the BlakTinX Performance Series. Find out more here

Estrada will present the solo Not a Single Carmen More!, (Ni Una Carmen Mas!), danced by Ivanka Figueroa as part of a performance entitled "Mourning Loss/Celebrating Survival" on the Day of Action Against Domestic Violence.  Find out more here

    I am a performer, historian, consultant and dance writer.
