Collapsable Hole
November 15 – 19
Together with media designer Meena Murugesan, sound designer Everett Saunders, set designer Mimi Lien, lighting designer Tuce Yasak, and her father as set builder, Forté-Saunders will present the world premiere of her new solo Memoirs of a... Unicorn. “…Spurred by stories of her Arkansas-born father’s life, interviews of self-identifying black men, and writings by Carlos Castanedas and Virginia Hamilton, Forté-Saunders’ new work has landed as a non-linear performance installation describing (in part) the celestial ecliptic narrative of people identifying and building legacy within the spectrum of blackness, maleness and “womb-ness.” The work's opening Gallery Walk invites audiences to traverse various installations that include visual projections by media designer Murugesan and a compelling sound environment by composer Saunders. In her provocative new solo Forté-Saunders weaves historic, fantastical, and personal narratives into an embodied tale of fragmented histories, unabated love, and warriorship,” according to the release.
