Martha Graham Dance Company
New York City Center

April 14 – 18
The Martha Graham Dance Company celebrates its 90th anniversary season and will feature some of Graham’s most notable works including: Chronicle (1936), Appalachian Spring (1944), Cave of the Heart (1946), Lamentation (1930), and Night Journey (1947). Also slated for this season are commissioned works by Marie Chouinard, Mats Ek, and Pontus Lidberg, plus works by Nacho Duato and Andonis Foniadakis.  Find out more here 
 
American Tap Dance Foundation

April 12 – 17
ATDF’s Rhythm in Motion shows will be presented in two programs and six performances of works by emerging and established choreographers including: Michelle Dorrance, Leonardo Sandoval, Chloe Arnold and Caleb Teicher.  Find out more here

For her return to New York, former New York City Ballet principal dancer Lourdes Lopez, and now  Artistic Director, brings ballets by George Balanchine, Alexei Ratmansky, Justin Peck and more.  Find out more here
 
Nora Chipaumire
Peak Performances
April 14 – 17
The Zimbabwe-born dancer-choreographer Nora Chipaumire will premiere “Portrait of Myself As My Father,” an “…exploration of the Black Body,” plus her short film, “Afro Promo #1: Kinglady.” According to the release, Chipaumire “…tackles our idea of masculinity with her fearless investigation of Africa and the Black body.” Find out more here
 
ARCANE Collective
New York Live Arts
April 14 – 16
Founded by dance artists Morleigh Steinberg and long-time collaborator Oguri, the Dublin / Los Angeles based dance company ARCANE Collective brings its latest two-part production, Return to Absence and Ebb which “…delves into the Samuel Beckett trilogy Molloy, Malone Dies, and The Unnamable,” notes the release.  Find out more here

For this meeting, Brian Seibert, New York Times dance critic and author, will offer readings from his new book, What the Eye Hears: A History of Tap Dancing alongside live performances by Roxane Butterfly, Kazu Kumagai, and Caleb Teicher.  Find out more here

​New Chamber Ballet
City Center - Studio 5
April 15 – 16
Miro Magloire’s New Chamber Ballet will present an evening of works by Magloire set to music by Mozart, Ravel, Paganini, and contemporary composers Karlheinz Stockhausen and Tristan Murail. The company will also premiere the complete version of Ravel’d.  Find out more here 
 
Larissa Velez/Jackson Yackez Dance
New York Live Arts

As part of NYLA’s LIVE FEED program, Velez will present a work-in progress showing from the Queer dance ensemble that “…critiques pop celebrity in the vein of the film “Spinal Tap.”  Find out more here
 
The Moving Beauty Series – Various Artists
Williamsburg Movement & Arts Center

This inaugural concert series, The Moving Beauty Series will present THE CO-OP: 6 dancers plus 4 choreographers in one show featuring Laurie M. Taylor, Michelle Thompson, Cameron McKinney, and Aaron McGloin.  Find out more here

    I am a performer, historian, consultant and dance writer.
