DBDT brings three New York premieres: Jamal Story’s What to Say?  “…a gravity-defying aerial duet…[which] tells the unrequited love story centered around the Greek myth of Echo and Narcissus;”  Bridget L. Moore’s Unearthed “…expos[ing] the emotion and strength of motherhood and loss,” and former Alvin Ailey dancer Kirven Douthit-Boyd’s Furtherance, “… a journey from anguish to bliss amid the backdrop of a Japanese taiko drum musical score,” notes the release.  Repertory works include: Instinct 11.1 by Francesca Harper created the work in honor of her mother, Denise Jefferson, the late director of The Ailey School (1984 – 2010).  Find out more here

Ballet Preljocaj

Under artistic director Angelin Preljocaj, the Company brings the New York premiere of all three parts of Preljocaj’s Empty moves (parts I, II & III) , their first collaboration with The Joyce Theater since their April 2014 engagement of Snow White, presented at Lincoln Center. The Invisible Dog Art Center

Co-presented by New York Live Arts and The Invisible Dog Art Center, Rosenblit’s Clap Hands (world premiere), is described as “…a mating call, amidst an over-crowded solo, looking to hail, disappear, disguise, displace, reveal and track the disappearance of the body,” according to the release.  Find out more here

Boogie Down Dance Series 2016

Celebrating dance in the Bronx, “The Boogie Down Dance Series” will feature “…a powerful mix of dance that vibrates with Bronx energy and a diversity of dance from around the city,” notes the release. First up are the “DELICIOUSLY DARING MEN” - Romeo Bron Bi from the Ivory Coast, NY-based Brother(hood) Dance! and Lawrence Graham Brown (April 24).  Find out more here
 
World Music Institute's Dancing the Gods Festival

The annual festival returns for its fifth season uniting "...some of the world's most talented Indian classical dancers with live musicians for two nights of performances, lecture-demonstrations, and chat & chai artist receptions..." notes the release.     I am a performer, historian, consultant and dance writer. I am a Empire State College's online program Center for Distance Learning.  I am also a former faculty member at The Ailey School and the Alvin Ailey/Fordham University dance major program, Hunter College, Sarah Lawrence College (Guest), Kean University and The Joffrey Ballet School's Jazz and Contemporary Trainee Program.  I write on dance for The Amsterdam News, Dance Magazine and various publications.  Click below to read more about me at my home page - "About Me."
