Danspace Project
February 23 – 25
Kimitch’s new work Ko-bu a solo for dancer/collaborator Julie McMillan “…seeks to create a sensory landscape in which to contemplate grief and loss. Kimitch is a fourth-generation Japanese American and grew up studying Chinese folk and classical dance in his home state of Minneapolis. Over many years, Kimitch has assembled a collection of photographs of Flying Apsaras and Boddhisatvas featured in the historic Mogao cave murals of Dunhuang in northern China, which date back as early as the late fourth century. These images, along with other religious iconography and Maurice Sendak illustrations, are brought to life in Ko-bu by McMillan through a series of articulated pauses and sustained images.” notes the release. There is no late seating for these performances. The audience is encouraged to arrive on time. Find out more here
