“Too many of Ms. Sokolows dances have virtually disappeared and we are once again researching fuzzy film footage for dances that ought to be carefully reconstructed,” writes the Company. In its first season under artistic director Samantha Geracht, Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble will present rarely seen works by legendary American modern dance pioneer Anna Sokolow, including her Moods, which has not been performed since the late 1970's, along with Dreams and Preludes. The series, “Dancing Platform Praying Grounds: Blackness, Churches, and Downtown Dance” by guest curator Reggie Wilson for the Danspace Project’s Platform 2018, continues with participating dance artists: Same As Sister/Briana Brown-Tipley and Hilary Brown, Keely Garfield, Beth Gill, Jonathan Gonzalez, Miguel Gutierrez, Angie Pittman, Edisa Weeks and Ni’Ja Whitson. The Platform will conclude with the world premiere of Wilson’s …they stood shaking while others began to shout, commissioned by Danspace. Find out more here

Dancers and musicians from Spain return for a celebration of authentic flamenco “…while challenging the conventions of the form,” according to the release. The 2018 Flamenco Festival line-up includes performances by Ballet Nacional de España returns (March 2 – 4) for the first time in nearly 20 years with the premiere of Suite Sevilla, by director Antonio Najarro; the return of Eva Yerbabuena (Mar 9 & 10) with the ensemble of dancers musicians that comprise Compañía Eva Yerbabuena in her new show, Carne y Hueso (Flesh and Bone), and the Barcelona-born Jesús Carmona plus the eleven dancers, musicians, and singers of Ballet Flamenco Jesús Carmona (Mar 11), with Ímpetus (“bursting with energy”). As part of Performance Space New York (formerly Performance Space 122) East Village Series, the first semi-annual themed series, and the first program curated by the institution’s new Executive Artistic Director, Jenny Schlenzka. Laris Cohen will present a new work, P.S.122, mapping “…aesthetic and political fault lines among the building’s tenants over the past 40 years, bringing discrete groups into ambivalent collaboration,” notes the release. The fast growing series “Work Up 4.0,” a platform for emerging artists at divided into three sections and three shared weekends, continues with- Babay L. Angles, J. Bouey and Rourou Ye (Work Up 4.2 – March 9 – 10) and Melanie Greene, Summer Minerva and EmmaGrace Skove-Epes (Work Up 4.3 – March 16 – 17). The series also incorporates a gallery exhibition by the artists and post-performance receptions each Friday, and post-performance discussions with the artists each Saturday. Boston’s The Wonder Twins Billy & Bobby McClain will bring their brand of “…dance and song: “Broadway to Hip-Hop” and “Sounds of Movement.” With an eclectic soundtrack of music ranging from legendary rappers Busta Rhymes and KRS One, to the classic voice of Sammy Davis Jr., and even poetry from Maya Angelou, Nina Simone, Alonzo King and more,” notes the release.
