City Center Studio 5
February 16 - 17
Magloire began his career in music before dance, but gives equal attention to both, and for this New Chamber Ballet’s season, he will present two world premieres that celebrate both his loves. For one, “…he has selected both instrumental and vocal music by contemporary composer Kaija Saariaho, including her ‘Changing Dreams’ for soprano and violin, ‘Nocturne’ for piano, and ‘From the Grammar of Dreams’ for soprano and mezzo-soprano and other works for piano and violin, along with Karin Rehnqvist's ‘Davids Nimm’ for three female voices, all sung live by Charlotte Mundy, Mary Elizabeth MacKenzie, and Elisa Sutherland. In this collaboration with the Ekmeles vocal ensemble, the singers will interact on stage with the dancers. The second premiere (previously excerpted under the title of "Bach") is a suite for four of abstract dances to piano selections by J.S. Bach, including seven preludes and fugues from ‘The Well Tempered Clavier.’
