Che Malambo
On Stage at Kingsborough

March 25

Danced solely by men, a Malambo tradition which began in the 17th century as competitive duels, the company of 14 Argentine “gauchos” or cowboys, created by  French director and choreographer Gilles Brinas, will bring “…precision footwork, rhythmic stomping, drumming, singing, and whirling boleadoras (lassos) to the stage,” notes the release.  This will be Che Malambo’s Brooklyn debut.  Find out more here
 
BAAD! ASS Women Festival
The Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance
March 9 – April 8
The Festival continues with the usual mix of dance, comedy, poetry, music and performance aimed at “…celebrating the empowerment of women through art, culture and performance,” according to the release. Hamburg Ballet
The Joyce Theater
March 21 – 25
Under director and chief choreographer John Neumeier, for their Joyce debut, the Company will dance Neumeier’s Old Friends, “A collage of ballets featuring 25 dancers,” and the music of Simon and Garfunkel, notes the release.  Find out more here 
 
Gelsey Kirkland Ballet

For this season, Gelsey Kirkland Ballet will present an evening of works titled “Eternal Spring – The Arrows and Errors of Eros” featuring works by  Leonid Yakobson, Leonid Lavrovsky and Marus Petipa .  Find out more here 
 
Jillian Peña

The dance and video artist, Peña , “…whose work is primarily concerned with confusion and desire between self and other, and focuses on the most complicated relationship we all have,” according to the release, will premiere Natural Order, created with and performed by Alexandra Albrecht, Leigh Lotocki, Jocelyn Tobias and Madeline Wilcox.  Find out more here

March 24 - 26

Artistic Director Sheena Annalise brings the world premiere ballet, INNATE PRISMROSE with light installation artist, Robert Glowacki and "...transforms an unconventional white box theatre with laser shadows to set the tone..." notes the release.  Find out more here

    I am a performer, historian, consultant and dance writer.
