Continuing their celebration of women during Women’s History Month, and now confirming their 20 years of commitment, the BAAD! Ass Women Festival continues this week with a one-night-only performance by Bauman-Morales in huracán: storm medicine “… a personal dance story, living altar and town hall about destruction, translation, and the transformative power of storms. Told from the body and voice of a queer, lightskinned Oakland boricua, storm medicine is queer spanglish dance ritual in homage to the unseen powers that trip us up, shake us awake and call us home,” according to the release. The BAAD! Ass Women Festival concert series continues with choreographers from the Bronx and beyond including: Sole Sisters- Amber Funk Barton, Beatrice Capote, Deborah Conton, Mai Lê Hô and Tamara Williams (March 23), and Davalois Fearon Dance (March 29–30) in “For C.J.,” “… dedicated to artistic director Davalois Fearon’s nephew C.J., who was the victim of a fatal asthma attack in 2017,” notes the release. In the world premiere of Paraiso’s now my hand is ready for my heart: intimate histories, he dives into a “…deep exploration of [his] life, investigating aging, identity, sexuality, class and race.” Paraiso is joined by choreographer/dancers Irene Hultman, Jon Kinzel, Vicky Shick, and Paz Tanjuaquio in performance and as collaborators.
