Stephen Petronio Company

Stephen Petronio Company kicks off its 30th anniversary with two world premieres: Locomotor a full company work with an original score by hip-hop experimentalist Michael Volpe (aka Clams Casino), and Stripped, a solo performed by Petronio set to Philip Glass’s “Étude no. 5” for piano with a visual element by Janine Antoni.  Also on the program Strange Attractors (Part I) from 1999, with an original score by Michael Nyman.  Guest dancer Melissa Toogood joins the company in Locomotor.  Lighting design is by Petronio’s longtime collaborator Ken Tabachnick.  Find out more here

 
American Tap Dance “Rhythm in Motion”

Rhythm in Motion will feature ten performances over five days, showcasing a combination of young and emerging tap dancers including performances of new works by Michelle Dorrance, Brenda Bufalino, Derick K Grant, Cartier Williams and more.  Find out more here

Amanda Loulaki
The Chocolate Factory

Loulaki’s FORESTED, “…flirts with fragmented time, imagery, empty space, non-linear narrative and the extremities of a movement’s physicality,” according to the release.   Find out more here

Ailey II
Ailey Citigroup Theater
April 9-13
For his second season as artistic director, Troy Powell and Ailey II returns with two programs of premieres and returning works.  Premieres are: Alchemies by Adam Barruch, Cuore Sott’olio (“heart submerged in oil”) by Katarzyna Skarpetowska, and Wings by Jennifer Archibald.   Returning  works are:  Alvin Ailey’s Streams (1970), artistic director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Robert Battle’s We (2010), Benoit Swan Pouffer’s Rusty (2012) and Amy Hall Garner’s Virtues (2012).  Find out more here

Danspace Project

Three evenings of all new work by New York-based emerging choreographers Azrieli and Brooks. Both Azrieli and Brooks offer trios for their first Danspace commissions.  Find out more here

EMoves returns for the 15th year with premiere works by E-merging choreographers (Maria Bauman, Rashida Bumbray, Rie Fukuzawa, Desiree Godsell, Damani Pompey and Christopher Rudd) and E-volving choreographers (David Fernandez and Stefanie Batten Bland).  Find out more here

Center for Performance Research Spring Movement Festival

Gut check, choreographedby Kora Radella in collaboration with performers Matty Davis and Adrian Galvin and text by Will Arbery, “…progresses, stalls, rewinds, and changes directions through a series of ritual-like preparations, verbal miscommunications, and demanding, intimate challenges. The performers' relationship alternately fortifies and corrodes as they pursue their collective and individual journeys,” notes the release.  Find out more here

    I am a performer, historian, consultant and dance writer.
