April 21 – 22

On this program of “Work Up” (3.3), Gibney Dance’s performance series which presents short works by dance and performance artists on a shared bill.  Fraser will present Stillbirth where “mythic dreams of ovarian teratomas and the vagina dentata collide with Caribbean Carnival practices,”  then “A series of physical micro-worlds emerge and dissolve in Graczyk’s solo, Beast,” and finally, martohardjono’s GENERAL DYNAMICS… will offer “…a ‘safe space’ for somatic survival in the era of information overload,” according to the release.  Find out more here

Ballet Hispanico’s program of all-female choreographers includes: Michelle Manzanales's Con Brazos Abiertos (world premiere), Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s Línea Recta and Tania Pérez-Salas’ Catorce Dieciséis.  Find out more here 
 
Dance Theatre of Harlem
New York City Center
April 19 – 22
The season will feature System (NY Premiere) by Francesca Harper, Chaconne (DTH premiere) by José Limón, Dialogues (New Production) by Glen Tetley and Brahms Variations (NY Premiere) by resident choreographer Robert Garland.  Returning is Dianne McIntyre’s Change, Darrell Grand Moultrie’s Vessels and Garland’s Return.  Moultrie’s Equilibrium (BROTHERHOOD) and a Glen Tetley Tribute performed by special Guest artists are slated for special programs.  Find out more here 
 
Okwui Okpokwasili
New York Live Arts
April 19 – 22 & 26 – 29
In collaboration with director and visual designer Peter Born, Okpokwasili will premiere Poor People’s TV Room “…informed by two historic incidents in Nigeria: The Women’s War of 1929, a resistance movement against British colonial powers, and the Boko Haram kidnappings of more than 300 girls that launched the Bring Back Our Girls movement,” notes the release.  Find out more here

Peak Performances

In an evening-length program of new and repertory works, the company will offer the world premiere of O, round desire, a new dance commissioned and co-produced by Peak Performances; A Hundred Indecisions, a new film produced by Dance for Film on Location at Montclair State University, plus Elkins’ Mo(or)town/Redux (2012).  Find out more here

As part of World Music Institute’s fifth annual “Dancing The Gods Festival” at Symphony Space, slated are performances by Neena Prasad and musicians, Sanjukta Sinha and more. It’s Showtime NYC

From 12 noon to 4pm, the crew of dancers that make up It’s Showtime NYC and “…celebrates New York City street culture and provides performance and professional development opportunities to street and subway dancers as a legal alternative to dancing in subway cars,” according to the release, comes to Battery Park.  Find out more here

    I am a performer, historian, consultant and dance writer.
